About me

Hi there! I would like to welcome you and applaud you for taking this step in finding a therapist. The first step is often the hardest one, and you are already there. My name is Stephanie and I hope that I can be of some help to you. I wanted to first introduce myself, and then I will tell you a little bit about my background as well as how I conduct my treatment.

I received my undergraduate degree from Ramapo College of New Jersey. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science with a concentration in Criminology, as well as a minor in Psychology. I then went on to earn my Master’s degree from Pace University in mental health counseling. It is here that I first began counseling and fell in love with the work. After I graduated, I became a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of New York as well as a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of New Jersey. I am also a Nationally Certified Counselor.

I have been providing counseling services for about seven years now. I started at an organization where I was able to provide counseling for all different types of people. I feel fortunate that throughout the years I have been able to help so many people from all different walks of life. I have worked with people of many different ages, faiths, races, cultures, gender identities, sexual orientations, socioeconomic backgrounds, etc. Every person is special and unique and I make sure to tailor my therapy to reflect that. I do not believe in a “one size fits all” method to treatment.

Furthermore, I have experience treating many disorders and topics including anxiety, depression, OCD, anger management, co-parenting, eating disorders, marital conflict, the end of life, etc. My specialization over the last several years has been in the treatment of the LGBTQ and young adult populations.

The theoretical approach I most often utilize in therapy is the Person-Centered approach. I believe in allowing my clients to steer where the sessions go as well as decide what they want out of their treatment. I do not like to try to pretend to be an expert in anyone else’s life. I believe that you are the expert in your own life, and I am here to help you. I work hard to make sure all of my clients really feel seen and heard for who they are. I always promise to provide a safe and non-judgmental environment where people can trust to open up and be themselves. I believe that everyone is valid in their feelings, and I will never tell you otherwise. I also sometimes will implement some Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for clients to continue the work outside of the sessions. It can be useful to implement some hands on practice for potential techniques discussed.

At the end of the day, I am here to support you. Whatever you are dealing with, I will help you get through it. The hope is that nothing is permanent and that things will get better. I know it can be hard to see when you are in it, but hopefully I can get you there. I would love to hear from you. It can take a few tries to find the therapist that is right for you, and my feelings will not be hurt if I am not it. A therapeutic relationship is a two way street, and you deserve to find the person who is the best fit for you. Let’s give it a shot and see how it goes. I look forward to hearing from you!

Stephanie has been great. Very empathetic and very insightful. My issues are complex and she seems to understand how to get to the root cause of them. She asks good questions which prompt me to think in different ways. Highly recommended.

Stephanie is very light with her approach. She’s doesn’t make you feel like you’re talking to a counselor.

I have only been talking to Stephanie for a few weeks but in that time she has been nothing but kind, insightful, and an amazing listener. She is not judgmental at all and reminds me that my feelings are valid, which has been powerful. Thank you Stephanie and I look forward to continuing to work with you!
