I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida and Michigan with some Marriage and Family coursework. I have over 14 years of experience. Key areas I've counseled in are: anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and relational issues.
I believe people are resilient, and people can work through adversity. I'm proud to help people on their journey, and deeply value the profession I serve. I am an advocate for all. My approach combines theories and techniques to serve each person best. I believe unconditional positive regard is essential as a framework in the counseling work between myself and a client. I’ll need you to confirm your identity and an emergency contact before sessions. You must be in either Michigan or Florida at the time of the session. You also must be a resident of either of these states.

Stephanie has been working consistently and diligently with me to untie some of the emotional loops I've been struggling with. She picked up quickly that I'm more interested in questions that send me to new territory, rather than answers that lead me to the old. I have very much appreciated her patience with some of my more abstract lines of thought!

Stephanie has been great. She's been helping me for about 3 weeks now. She asks good questions (many I have never asked myself). The techniques and methods she suggests for getting to the bottom of things are different. She suggests things that are within my capability to do (I'm into meditation, so this is helpful.) I feel a little more empowered, rather than helpless, in dealing with stressful situations. I think I am developing new skills for handling life.

I am so fortunate that I found betterhelp and was matched with Stephanie Niemela. The practice of written communication back & forth has really helped me. Stephanie has been so encouraging and her advice to me is right on target. She has provided me with information and help that wasn't there despite seeing several therapists. I'm so glad I found betterhelp and Stephanie Niemela.

Stephanie is great. You can tell she genuinely cares about others. I took a week or so away from the site and she would still continue to check in and make sure I was doing well even if I did not reply. She even remembered specific dates of upcoming events in my life to inquire about also. Very nice individual.
