About me

Hello there, I’m Dr. Stephanie Olarte! I’m a licensed psychologist in the state of Maryland. My professional experiences include psychological assessment, ADHD, anxiety, depression, parenting stress, family conflict, trauma, and school problems.

Like most therapists, I adopt an eclectic approach to therapy instead of a one-size-fits-all theory. I’m always happy to have a lengthy conversation about theories developed by erudite intellectuals over the past 200 years, but I tend prioritize a down-to-earth, grounded approach to therapy. If I were to sum up my philosophy on humans and their mental health needs into a single quote, it would be this: “I have no special talents, I am only passionately curious” (Albert Einstein). What does this mean for you as my therapy client? For starters, I will be asking many questions about your presenting problem beyond the generic “how long? How severe?” routine questions. The more I understand who you are and where you’ve been, the better I will understand the problem that has brought you to therapy. Additionally, I rarely if ever claim to have all the answers and I gladly own it when I don’t. While I do bring a wealth of knowledge about mental health and society, you are the expert on yourself. It’s my job to support and empower you as you discover the solution that fits your life.

Please note, I typically limit live sessions to 45 minutes, once per week. I have limited weekend availability.
