Hello. My name is Steve Samet; and, as we are going to be working together, I would like to tell you something about my background. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. Over the past 30 years, I have served as a Career Counselor, Personal Counselor, and Mental Health Counselor, in several different settings.
I received my Master’s degree, in Counseling and Student Services, with a Minor in Psychology, from The University of North Texas. During my studies in graduate school, I worked as a Probation officer for Denton County Juvenile Probation Department, and had an internship in the Ft. Worth Mental Health and Mental Retardation Association. During that time, I was also became a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor.
Following my graduate program, Dallas Goodwill Industries hired me as Supervisor of their Sheltered Workshop. Goodwill later promoted me to the position of Director of all Personnel Services.
I moved to San Antonio, where I spent 29 years as a Counselor and Professor for the Alamo Community College District. In my position in the District, I taught a course I created called ‘Strategies for Success; I also did Career evaluation and Counseling; and, served as one of three Mental Health Counselors for the college.
I became a Licensed Professional Counselor shortly after leaving my position at Goodwill. I became active in the Texas Counseling Association (TCA), the largest Professional Counseling organization in the United States, joining the Texas College Counseling Association (TCCA), a Division of TCA. The TCA President selected me as the Emerging Leader. I later received the ‘Outstanding Counselor award’ from TCCA.
Also, during the time I spent working at the college , I spent my summers working at a 400 acre children’s camp. I was first a Camp Counselor; then, became the Head Counselor; and, for twelve summers, I served as Director of Programming and Staff Development.
Most recently, I worked at a Charter School as their Kindergarten thru 12th grade Personal Counselor. During this same period, I worked with the Charter School’s parent company, serving as the as the Mental Health Counselor for a Teen Residential Facility.
I intend to use my background to work with you, in identifying your roadblocks to a successful, goal achieving life. We will take whatever time you need to discuss things you feel are keeping you from moving forward; and, together, we will create a goal-setting plan. I look forward to our working together.
