Thank you for taking a moment to read my profile! My name is Steven and I am a licensed professional counselor in the sunshine state of Florida. I began my journey in the human services field by earning an undergraduate degree in human development and parent education.
Preventing common psychological problems through better parenting made sense to me and was my personal and professional goal.
Shortly after getting my graduate degree in counseling psychology in Colorado, I moved my small family to the "bush" of Alaska to work as a counselor for a large native corporation. After 21 years in Alaska and raising two amazing daughters, I moved south toward sunshine.
I now have 25 years working in the mental/behavioral health field in several states. I have worked in a good number of settings, including mental health centers, psychiatric hospitals, residential treatment centers, half way houses for teens, addiction treatment programs, trauma crisis lines and elementary, middle and high school behavioral and academic success programs. My experience has run a wide gamut of treatment issues, including depression, anxiety, low self esteem, trauma, grief and loss, sexual abuse, parent training and physical, intellectual and emotional disability care.
My therapeutic approach is largely person-centered, eclectic, multicultural and evidenced base cognitive-behavioral therapy.
I enjoy travel, physical fitness, exploring the ocean, climbing mountains, photography and interacting with people from different cultures and countries. I have had the opportunity and experience of traveling to almost every continent. I look forward to our meeting and assisting and supporting you on your journey.
