Steven Floyd, LCPC
About me
I have worked as a therapist for over 35 years in community mental health, in substance abuse prevention programs, in a Christian counseling center, and counseled foster children, as well as worked in a women's prison. I volunteered as a Stress Debriefer for emergency personal, including police, fire, EMT's, and Emergency room nurses. I believe in the holistic nature of wellness, and encourage physical, mental and spiritual health to maximize mental health. I also believe strongly that untreated stress/PTSD can create an array of mental and physical problems, including depression and anxiety, issues in relationships, poor self-esteem, and unresolved grief. Forming an atmosphere of acceptance and being non-judgmental are important to me in creating a relationship of trust and openness. I use a cognitive thinking approach with emphasis on managing emotional distress leading to healthy behaviors and activities. I also encourage people to learn and maintain calming and coping activities. Most people find me easy to talk to and I think you will too.

I joined Betterhelp because I desperately needed someone to talk, listen, empathize, and give me some easy-to-integrate tips on how to manage my day-to-day stress and challenges. Steven has been a great fit for me from the jump. I feel seen and understood. His very presence is calming, and I feel more able to take on the challenges of the day after speaking with him!

Stephen is direct but not intimidating. I’ve had therapists where I’m able to control the situation and I didn’t find sessions helpful in the past with them. Stephen wouldn’t fall into that category. He’s very professional and has helped me navigate some sticky situations and gave excellent perspective. Highly recommended!
