About Me

About Myself:
I’m a licensed Psychotherapist (LCSW) licensed to practice in California, New York as well as Nevada and having been working with people therapeutically since 2006. I’ve worked in many capacities from one to one, group work to workin with administration on a macro level in policy and quality control.

About My Experience:
I’ve worked as a therapist in many contexts, however my position right out of graduate school I believe laid the foundation for the approach I use which is both client-centered as well as outcome based. Meaning that when you and I having completed a therapeutic dosing schedule be it for a short 8 weeks, 32 weeks, or sometimes longer I believe you will be able to say when asked “So, what did you learn in this therapy.” You will be able to say something relevant to your experience and may sound like one of these statements:
“I was able to understand that the body I see in the mirror is the same body I see in photo shoots and magazine covers. I just didn’t want to believe it.” “I realized yelling at my spouse with explicatives was never going to make my point of view heard better and once I understood that my relationship blossomed.” “I just needed someone who didn’t know me to listen without judgement.”
“I was able to go to my daughter’s wedding in Connecticut after being unable to leave the home for almost a year.” “I got back on the road driving to work after being involved in a severe car accident with my child in the car that stopped me from getting in the car months after the accident.” “I learned how to approach people by understanding the tools necessary in working with others collaboratively.”

About My Education:
I was a later learner in life and it took me a while to understand that education was not so much a means to an end, but rather an enrichment in yourself as human being in turn that allows you entry into contexts you might not find yourself so quickly. For myself it was an honors program, being a diplomate in my given discipline and understanding the key to others’ appreciation is an excellent approach to people and their service, which is always the first goal.
I graduated with a Bachelor’s in Sociology with a minor in Law and Society from the California State University system, Los Angles and entered a master’s program for social work at the University of Southern California where I graduated top 3% of my cohort as a Scholar of the Dean and began working directly out of school with the county government as a Therapist providing evidence based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Crisis Recovery Oriented Services, and person affirming therapy, and Motivational Interviewing to name a couple.
I’ve had the pleasure of learning directly from developers such as; Edna Foa and Prolonged Exposure therapy, Dr. Lisa Najavits and Seeking Safety and earning diplomatic status as a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist from the Developers of CBT at Beck’s Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies and the Institute of Interpersonal Psychotherapy’s Interpersonal Psychotherapy.

About My Treatment Approach:
I believe the therapeutic alliance should be comprised of a seeker who is eager or so fed up with their current circumstance that they are willing to attempt an approach that will help them as much as they put into the process. The real therapy is not had in the hour that you and I meet but in the application of the suggested tools you agree to use in your day to day life where you can report back on your consistent achievements.
I believe that oftentimes levity is a tool we therapists in session seems to forget is so useful for a soul whose morale and direction has gone askew. I approach therapeutic interactions with respect and wonder for each individual’s issue as well as their learning style. I believe that understanding is on an individual’s schedule where you’ll need to be allowed to go at your own pace to truly be able to engage in and with the changes that you want to see in your life, this is where I can help.
I have always appreciated the proactive client who wants to be there and who is curious about what I’m suggesting might be helpful. Who has a lot to say about what they are finding helpful and what they are not finding so helpful. Some of my favorites people to work have been those taking the next step from college and deciding what graduate program to accept or to apply to curious about the process, but willing to trust it as well.

About How I Can Help:
I will work at the level and speed most comfortable for you. Each person has a natural inclination usually to a therapeutic approach and usually don’t even know it. For example some people need to see their progress in the form of a graph, or dots on a calendar often clearly biased toward a CBT therapy approach whereas some people look at progress in the changes in interactions they have with others and the quality and nature of the changes in their interactions with others and seem to naturally have an inclination toward interpersonal psychotherapy. or some simply need to “get things off their chest,” and prefer an approach that is a bit more eclectic and who boundaries are a little looser than the evidence based approach. No matter what approach works for you I will be patient in helping you achieve this natural homeostatic state and approach that works best for you.

He has helped me through a stressful time. He does not tell me what to think but leads me with questions to think more deeply about what’s worrying me. He has also given me strategies to help manage my anxious feelings. His knowledge has allowed me to understand where some of my fears and anxious thoughts have come from.

I was paired with Mr. Cospewiz and he canceled my first session and I was OK to reschedule. I did and we communicated via text and on the day of my session, he canceled and said he does not know why we were paired because I had Christian listed. Without even giving me a chance to talk he sent to the link to change therapist. I selected him from the list of matches after reading his profile and thought he would be a great fit, but he didn't even allow me to work with him. I selected his profile sent to me...I don't understand.

Steven (Ivan) always asks the right questions to provoke me to think deeper into my situation. He’s always very encouraging, respectful and attentive.

Ivan has a proactive, professional manner, as well as a great response time. His availability is also very good. Our meetings feel productive and some the results of his challenges have surprised me in a good way. I am most happy to have him as my counsellor.

I just started betterhelp and I was a bit hesitant at first, but so far Mr. Cospewicz is doing a great job at listening to my concerns and has been very helpful in getting my life back on track. Can’t wait for more future sessions with him.

Work with me!
