About me

Welcome! There is no beauty in "settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living." It is time to be courageous and see what might be causing you to settle. While it may require hope, perseverance, and patience, you'll be glad you did!

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the State of Illinois. I received a Master of Science degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northwestern University (NU), training at The Family Institute at Northwestern. Additionally, I have a Master of Arts in Pastoral Counseling, focusing on Marriage and Family from Liberty University, obtaining clinical training in faith-based solutions. Perhaps the greatest gift of these two opportunities is that Northwestern is a liberal school and Liberty is a Conservative Christian school. The convergence of the two ideologies on my professional work with individuals and couples aligns with the profession's aspirational core values of acceptance, appreciation, and diversity inclusion.

I am trained with a systemic view of change, using empirically-based information that the profession and I know works. I hold a firm belief in unconditional positive regard, goodness, and the importance of interconnectedness among ALL humanity. It is an honor to be used as an instrument of healing for another. I do not take the responsibility lightly as I strive to remain curious, nonjudgmental, and compassionate for ALL people. I will be showing up with my A-game, and I look forward to helping you.

When working with individuals, I specialize in relational concerns, anxiety, stress, shame, depression, and compassion fatigue. I focus primarily on high functioning individuals such as nurses, doctors, pastors, or therapists experiencing anxiety, stress, depression, or compassion fatigue. You may have sleep issues, sadness, apathy, tiredness, anger, fear, or lack of attention to your emotional needs. At the same time, you are so good at hiding it that no one notices. Often, you may not feel seen or understood.

Working with couples, I specialize in communication gridlock and emotional disengagement. Another focus of specialization are couples trying to move past an affair or a financial betrayal. I also have a passion for premarital education and assisting couples with cohabitation issues. Perhaps one or both partners is considering divorce or separation; I can help here as well.

I utilize Gottman therapy, Prepare/Enrich, Discernment Counseling, and Financial Therapy in the context of couple work. I use cognitive-based approaches, the IFS model, mindfulness, psychoeducation , and compassion fatigue techniques for individuals. I believe couples and individuals need mental health check-ups, ensuring you are not sliding into a relapse from prior therapeutic work. Regardless of the problem, all require a relapse plan and relapse prevention plan.
