Sue DeVall

About Me

I am a licensed independent clinical social worker in West Virginia with over 10 years of experience working as a psychotherapist and counselor. I specialize in treating clients who have experienced trauma and abuse including clients whose history may include abuse in childhood that negatively impacts them today. I have also helped many people who have experienced drug & alcohol addictions, anxiety, depression, personality disorders and bipolar disorders using schema therapy, cognitive behavioral and mindfulness approaches.

I am a warm and interactive therapist who makes suggestions and gives assignments in order to help you to increase your ability to cope, to reduce negative symptoms and to improve your communication with others. My approach to therapy encourages honest and open communication between us. I want you to feel safe letting me know if I say or suggest something that you disagree with. This helps me to know how to best work together with you collaboratively in our therapeutic relationship.

It takes courage to begin the process of making changes that can lead to a more fulfilling and happier life. I am here to support and empower you in that process.

I look forward to working with you!

Sue was great! She really helped me through a difficult period in my life. She used a variety of techniques to not only figure out my issues but to also help me attack them.

She's very compassionate and understanding. Even the things I think are trivial, she takes the time to listen to and help me with. She helps me untangle emotions that I've been trying to hide and for that I'm very thankful!

Very easy to communicate with! Sue is understanding, patient, really pays attention to the words you write and doesn't judge or criticize. Instead she helped me see things differently.

Sue is a great counsellor. Using email to communicate has worked well for me, as simply writing things down has been hugely therapeutic. Sue has always been very quick to respond, and her advice has been very empathetic and thoughtful.

Sue is open and doesn't practice the top-down approach. It is far more empowering this way. She is timely and handled a large chunk of information well. Her experience does come through when she pinpoints certain things. I give her 4 stars because no one is perfect, so that is as high as it goes for me.

I have really enjoyed working with Sue. At the start, I wasn't convinced by BetterHelp's approach, but now I really enjoy being able to communicate at any time or place I choose. Sending messages helps me reflect on my issues and writing them down in itself is therapy.

Sue has been very responsive and sympathetic, she offers insightful advice and suggestions. She also uses questionnaires and assessments for personal development and self exploration which I find very enjoyable to complete and very interesting. I would highly recommend this service and Sue is an excellent therapist.
