About Me

Hello and Welcome!
The decision to seek therapy is often an incredibly difficult one. But what a courageous thing to do to identify issues and barriers in your life that stand in the way of healing and wholeness and to invite another in to help you navigate that road. As a therapist, I feel a privileged opportunity to walk with you in that journey of healing and self-discovery.
My name is Summer and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Austin, TX. I have 3 years of experience with adults working through issues of depression and anxiety, post-traumatic stress, life transitions and changes, family of origin issues, relationships, and sexuality. Within the last 4 years, I have worked more closely with a child and adolescent population and their families with issues of emotional development, depression and anxiety, family of origin issues, school stress, abuse and trauma, and sexuality.
Every person I work with is unique and deserves an approach that best suits their needs and goals in therapy. I take an eclectic approach to therapy and aim to maintain flexibility in my modalities as I get to know and begin this journey with you. I pull from an assortment of modalities in order to meet each client where they are and have most commonly utilized the following: Mindfulness-based Therapy, Existential Therapy, Experiential Therapy, Ecotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy. More recently, I have explored ways to infuse movement, exercise, and nature into the therapeutic process as a means to help others build more profound connections to self, others, and their environment.
A therapeutic relationship is a collaborative effort and investment in a space between two people that enables healing, awareness, and skill building as a means to carve out a more whole future. I wholeheartedly commend your first steps in this journey and would love an opportunity to be a part of that with you.

I’ve only recently started seeing Summer, but so far I have had a very positive experience. She seems to be rather flexible with how to approach therapy sessions depending on the comfortability of the client, but with me she helps me acknowledge the bs. She calls you to recognize your own actions/faults, but also calls it like she hears it when sharing about other people in your life. Really like her style and it feels easy to share especially since she asks questions based off what you share. 10/10

Summer Birmingham has been a great counselor. She listens well and respects my wishes and boundaries. She doesn't just tell me what I need to do, she actually works through my concerns with me and lets me come up with the best answer. I love BetterHelp and the fact that with my anxiety I don't HAVE to talk on the phone with someone or see them in person. Summer lets me do what's most comfortable for me and I appreciate that.
