About me

Welcome! What is it that you truly love? What stirs your heart and makes you feel alive inside? In my work as a psychotherapist, I love helping individuals reclaim their wholeness by giving attention to what has heart and meaning for them, and to listen to that inner voice that knows what they truly want and need, as well as how to shift course when presented with life or relationship challenges.

A bit about me: I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of California, with over 22 years of experience as a bilingual (Spanish/English) counselor in a variety of mental health settings including schools, hospitals, psychiatric units, prisons and in private practice. In serving many clients through the years, my intention is to meet you wherever you are in your life journey with acceptance and heart, and assist you in finding your inner healer we work together to find tools and resources that best fit your needs and way of being. My approach to psychotherapy is embodied, heart-based, and rooted in mindfulness practices, and while my tools are eclectic, I am often drawn to Client-Centered Psychotherapy, Narrative Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and Transpersonal Psychotherapy in my work. At the core of my practice is a focus on self-love, a cultivation of connection to your own inner guidance and knowing, and the intention to bring forth all the underlying parts of yourself that want to be seen, heard and expressed.

In my career, I have worked extensively with clients presenting with depression, anxiety, relationship and parenting issues, teen concerns, and a wide range of challenges including grief/loss, insomnia, intimacy issues, sexuality concerns, addiction, trauma and abuse. I have also supported many clients who want to do therapy for personal growth, adjustment issues, and/or who are navigating a crisis, as well as those who simply feel stuck in their life in some way.

As a Registered Expressive Arts Therapist and Registered Drama Therapist, I also believe in the power of creativity to help us heal and grow, and am delighted to support you in being wildly self-expressed, joyful, and connected to your deepest self. In my experience, pure talk therapy can sometimes deepen the grooves of our disempowering internal narratives, whereas mindful use of the arts can help uncover new narratives and resources that we may not otherwise connect to through talk alone. When it resonates, I bring in approaches from Expressive Arts and Drama Therapy to compliment and support you in your path of wellness, for the arts can sometimes bring more embodiment and aliveness to our work, and help create a fuller engagement with their process of healing and growth. However, no arts experience is necessary - just an attitude of curiosity and openness.

I look forward exploring if I can somehow support you in your life journey with whatever you are navigating.

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Suraya Keating. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

Even though I’ve only had a couple sessions with Suraya, I can already tell that she not only pays attention to details about you and your life, but also truly cares and is thoughtful. She goes above and beyond to make sure you are seen and heard as a person and not only a patience/client. Thanks Suraya!
