I am a licensed clinical mental health counselor who has worked in the mental health field since 1991 when I began as a psychiatric technician at the Wyoming State Hospital. I also worked as a case manager for Valley Behavioral Health in various settings through the years. These past experiences inspired me to become more educated in the mental health field and become a therapist.
I received an AS in criminal justice from Salt Lake Community College, BS in psychology and anthropology (cultural anthropology with a strong background in anthropology of religion) from the University of Utah in 2012 and an MS in clinical mental health counseling from the University of Phoenix in 2016.
I have experience as a therapist working in the mental health field as well as substance abuse field and worked at Project Reality which is a methadone clinic as an intern and at Odyssey House and Cornerstone Counseling as a primary therapist in residential and outpatient settings working in the substance abuse field. I have also worked at private practice settings with individual clients, adults, teens, families and couples. I have worked in the past in with domestic violence perpetrators and survivors, running groups and individual therapy for these people in an agency setting I was certified to do so in my area.
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy as well as solution-oriented approaches in my therapy. I also utilize art, existential and narrative therapies. Due to my anthropology background, I enjoy working with individuals from various ethnic and religious backgrounds and I am culturally sensitive and informed in my practice. I also have experience working with the LGBTQ community and I am a member of the LGBTQ-Affirmative psychotherapists Guild of Utah. I am also a member of the American Mental Health Counselors Association. My style of therapy involves a client-centered approach working on healing, gaining clarity and insight into feelings, working on authenticity and learning skills such as mindfulness which can create a better quality of life. I am an advocate for self-care and promote this through psycho-education and encouragement. I would love to assist you in doing these things by creating a strong and healthy therapeutic alliance.
In my spare time, I love to spend time with my partner-in-life who is my best friend, my grown children and five cats, cooking, entertaining, collecting antiques and art, as well as writing and watching movies. I occasionally like an interesting adventure!

Tammy is the best therapist I have ever had. Thank you for helping me get through this rough time!
She is amazing.
She is great and I enjoy working with her. I am comfortable talking with her and I think it's a good fit for me.
Tammy is AMAZING! She's very easy to talk to and really nice. She is non-judgemental and gives tips. She makes the session about you and only asks necessary questions. You never have to talk about anything you are not comfortable with. She taught me a lot about boundaries.
Tammy is amazing and she really listens and understands without judgement. She has a lot of knowledge and has shared various tools that have helped me with handling my emotions. I am super thankful for her & her kindness !
Tamara is very competent, kind, and direct. I would definitely recommend her!
Tamara Wright is a skilled, knowledgeable counselor. She is caring, down-to-earth, validates my concerns, and ensures she's giving me all of the resources I could possibly use to help me.
Tammy is the best therapist. I’m so grateful for her.
Tamara is one of the kindest people I've had the pleasure of meeting. She will never judge you or make you feel like any of your decisions are "bad". She only tries to help you look toward the future and helps you down a path of making healthier decisions in life. She also has a special and kind way of seeing things from a different perspective when I seem to be stuck in a thought loop.
I’ve only worked with Tamara Wright a short time, but what I’ve seen has been extremely professional, helpful and insightful. She’s given me some tools for healthier practices and improving my coping skills. I look forward to continue working with Tamara!
She's super helpful and super understanding. Sometimes, all a patient needs is a pair of ears to listen to, and she offers exactly that.
I have only worked with Tammy for a month, but she is amazing at what she does. She's very calm and listens without bias, reiterating things I say to be sure she understands what I'm trying to say. It's very helpful. Not only that but as this was my first time going into therapy I was very nervous but I found it easy to open up to her about things I usually keep private. I enjoy every session with her and I am already feeling so much better than I was prior to therapy.
Tamara is wonderful! I’ve only met with her twice but both times she had me in tears (good ones) and I left the session feeling so much relief. She is quick to respond and she checks in on you multiple times throughout the week. I have loved working with her!
She is calm and listens well. You can really tell that she cares about you.
Tammy is super easy to open up with, not biased in anyway. So far it’s been three weeks and we’ve already got some things figured out that I’ve been struggling with. She’s encouraging and overall a great counselor so far!
Tamara has been helpful, professional, responsive, and very understanding. Highly recommend.
Tamara makes me feel seen and heard and not just the “I’m ok” mask I wear for others. She has been awesome!
Very supportive and attentive to my needs and feelings
Tammy is so wonderful and understanding, not judgmental at all, and just after two sessions I already feel better. I would highly recommend her to anyone!
Tamara has been a perfect fit for me. She is truly knowledgeable, gives great advice, and also challenges me. Im very happy/excited about the work Tamara and i will accomplish.
Tammy is warm, supportive, and a fantastic listener. She has a great balance of listening and offering ideas and suggestions. She is clearly an expert in her field. I feel lucky to have been matched with her!
Tammy is honestly so helpful and supportive. She loves to check in every day or two just to make sure that I’m doing alright, and really knows the strategies and steps to battle anxiety and other issues I have been dealing with. Usually for me, meeting with a therapist is a little daunting, but I feel completely comfortable with Tammy. She is amazing.
I have absolutely loved my two sessions so far with Tammy. I truly feel like for the first time in my life I have found a therapist that can truly help me with the areas I need to reframe in my life. I find that she has tools to help, rather than simply listening, as tools are in my opinion, what is needed to make true change.
