About me

Hello! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Oregon, and I have over 12 years of experience working with individuals dealing with mental illness. I have worked both in private practice and in an acute care psychiatric hospital providing individual, group, and family therapy. I am comfortable treating all mental health issues, including helping those in crisis, and I have extensive experience working with individuals dealing with self-injury, anxiety/depression, pre and postpartum depression, and PTSD, and abuse issues.

My philosophy in working with all clients is to provide the best well-rounded care while focusing and building upon the strengths of the individual so that healthy coping patterns can be developed. As a therapist, I strive to cultivate trusting and meaningful relationships in which my clients find the comfort they need to explore difficult issues and emotions. I am passionate about empowering my clients and leading them through a journey of self-discovery to assist them in arriving at new insights and realizations. My approach is warm and supportive and I combine cognitive-behavioral, person centered, and dialectal behavioral counseling into my sessions. I will always make sure to tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.

Reaching out for help takes a lot of courage, and I would be honored to work with you. I look forward to connecting with you and supporting you in reaching your goals.

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Tara Cook. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

Tara has been an enormous help to me. I am new to therapy and considered it for a long time but I don’t have any regrets trying it online first. It’s important to me to have a flexible method of communication. I’m not always “in the mood” to really talk about stuff when I’m busy or tired, and this app allows me to have some flexibility. Tara is very understanding and works with my schedule, which means I can focus on how I’m feeling and how to improve my mental health instead of finding time for appointments. She usually says exactly what I need to hear and isn’t frustrated when I need reminders. I don’t know what I was so afraid of, but I wish I had done this sooner.

Very understanding, very flexible, very good listener. Willing to work with you in what way you feel would be most helpful. Explains why she takes the approach she does or why she feels a certain therapeutical approach would be helpful and the science behind it. Willing to go the distance to help you.

Tara is awesome. She always responds so quickly and has so much good information. The last few months have been the hardest of my life, but she has been helping me through everything with great resources and a caring approach. She really has a heart of gold and I'm grateful she is my counselor. :)
