About me

Welcome! I know that reaching out for help can often be the most difficult part of the therapeutic process. I am so glad that you are here. I am passionate about therapy and excited about the progress that I see my clients make on a daily basis. I believe that everybody is capable of growth, change and an enhanced sense of joy and overall well-being. I also believe that we all currently possess strengths that will help us to make progress in our journey toward our best selves. Through therapy we are able to learn how to identify and utilize those strengths as well as gain new skills in a supportive and empathetic environment.

I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Master of Counseling from Arizona State University. I have five years of behavioral health experience including experience working with youth, adults, couples and families. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and National Certified Counselor (NCC). Prior to my behavioral health career, I was a small business owner and served in the United States Air Force.

I specialize in working with adults and adolescents (ages 13+). I aim to provide integrative care based on the needs of the individual, couple or family. I have been trained in a number of different treatment methods which allows me to blend elements from different theories and interventions in order to customize my approach based on the needs of the individual, couple or family in order to achieve their goals. These modalities include: Person-Centered Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT).

We all go through difficult things in life. I passionately believe in meeting you where you are with compassion and understanding so that we can move you towards feelings of joy and fulfillment. My goal for you is to be able to skillfully engage in healthy relationships, experience success and growth in your career or education, enhance positive connections within the family unit, and improve overall well-being. I believe in you and your ability to move through this difficult time and would be honored to join you on that journey.

My first session was completely helpful.

Dr. Runnels has always been prompt to respond to my messages and is also on time for our sessions. She understands, shows compassion and is empathetic in all of our communications. I feel like I've known her a long time and often find myself wanting to ask how she has been doing! I can tell she loves what she does and plan on staying with better help even though I initially only intended to do just a few sessions.

Tawny is one of the best counselors I've ever had. She consistently leaves me feeling empowered at the end of appointments and I feel like I am actually making progress towards the things I want to.
