About me

Thank you for visiting my page today. I hope that I can join you on your journey toward healing and accessing more joy in life. Sometimes we need extra support on our journey, and that's okay. It's okay to be exactly where you are right now, but also to need additional support. I commend you for being brave enough to reach this point.

Now, let's see if I'm a good fit to make this journey with you :)

My name is Teddi Shriner, and I am a 35 year-old female therapist in Athens, Georgia. I have been a counselor for nine years. I attended the University of Georgia in Athens, GA, for my undergraduate and graduate degrees. My undergraduate degree is in Early Childhood Education and my graduate degree is in Professional Counseling. I also have my Specialist's Degree in School Counseling from Valdosta State University. I have worked in both school, private practice and community counseling settings. I love working with kids 10+, including tween and teens and college-aged adults with school issues, self-esteem, trauma, among other issues. I also have a special heart for working with adults enduring difficult life transitions, women and couples experiencing infertility issue, and anyone who is having a difficult time coping with a chronic illness, anxiety or depression. Additionally, I have first-hand and professional experience supporting individuals who are caretakers of their parents. I have personally been through the conservatorship process and can provide valuable support to anyone going through these difficult and emotional challenges.

My hobbies include running, hiking, traveling, baking, playing with my dog, spending time with my husband, step-daughters and family, and thrift shopping. I grew up in Rome, GA, and then moved to Athens, GA, for college. After college, I did a lot of soul-searching, as I felt lost on my life/career path, and found that teaching was not my forever career. Ironically, I fell in love with counseling during my student teaching when a student's mother passed away, and I became close to this student as he endured wrenching grief and worked to adjust to a new family situation and school. I knew then that my heart belonged in counseling.

You will find that I am an empathetic, motivating and creative therapist who utilizes various therapeutic approaches (such as CBT, DBT and Existential Therapy) in an eclectic and supportive manner tailored for your needs.

Teddi never condescends or oversimplifies your issue; she is a great active listener and gives you small, realistic steps you can take to change or challenge your stressors. I am so grateful for the time she has spent helping me to reframe the difficulties in my life!

Written on Dec 06, 2022 after therapy with Tedra for 4 months on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, self esteem, and career difficulties

I started "seeing" Teddi when I was at an all-time low from grief due to the loss of my husband. She gave me some life-long, valuable tools to use in healing my broken heart. After several weeks, I feel like a new person with a renewed strength to carry on. Although I have stopped my sessions for now, I know that I will reach out to Teddi again in the future when I encounter difficult times. She was compassionate and very endearing and I truly enjoyed my time with her. Thank you Teddi!
