If you’re here looking for a counselor, you must have something going on in your life that needs to change. Perhaps you’re feeling sadness, frustration, overwhelmed, stressed, or angry. Or maybe you’re struggling with a tough relationship, unhappy in your job/career, or you just don’t know exactly what’s wrong. I am very passionate about helping people make positive changes in their lives, and I am dedicated to each of my clients. I will walk through your journey with you, so choose me as your therapist if you are also committed to doing the work.
About me: I am a clinical counselor licensed in Ohio with over five years of experience working as a therapist. After 20 years of working as a human resource professional for Fortune 500 firms and running a large small business, I decided to make a mid-life career change. Counseling seemed to be a great next step, because my passion is working with individuals and small teams. I help people suffering from depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and other more serious mental health issues. I work with professionals dealing with work conflict, work-life balance issues, stress, and career challenges. I provide behavioral pain management to injured workers experiencing challenges from chronic pain and safely returning to work. Lastly, I love working with couples who are experiencing relationship challenges.
I use cognitive-behavioral therapy, rational emotive therapy, and humanistic theories with many of my patients, and can adapt to the appropriate intervention as the situation dictates. I approach couples’ therapy with tools from Gottman and Christensen. I treat each client with respect and compassion, and I take a genuine interest in your life and the challenges you are facing.
It takes courage to seek a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you.
I look forward to working with you!
**PLEASE NOTE** The State of Ohio requires that a clinician/client relationship must be established via video or telephone for e-counseling. What this means is that our first meeting will take place via the video or telephone option via BetterHelp. After that first meeting, we will set a regular meeting time through BetterHelp’s video, telephone, or live texting - whatever you’re comfortable with! Between appointments you are welcome to send me messages through the messenger option in your private thereapy room.
You can read the requirement of the State of Ohio here; it’s item #7: http://codes.ohio.gov/oac/4757-5-13v1
If you are looking to remain anonymous, I am not the right counselor to work with. I will send you a short intake form to complete via email. It follows the requirements of the Social Worker, Counselor, and Marriage & Family Therapy Licensure Board of the State of Ohio.

Terri is an outstanding therapist. After only a couple of sessions, I feel significantly better than I did months into my prior therapy experience. Specifically, she understood my anxiety and provided reassurance that I was taking the right steps to improve it.
I have never seen or talk to a therapist before because I thought it would not be that helpful. Talking to Terri Kern has been a turning point in my life. She helps me in ways I never knew were possible. She talks to me like a friend rather than a doctor or a patient. The care and experience that these professionals have is more than I could have asked for. Thank you
Down to earth, pragmatic, & supportive!
Terri is nothing less than amazing. She asks the right questions at the right time.
I have only worked with Terri for a few weeks, but it is such a relief. Terri seems to REALLY get me. She understands my issues and is so easy to talk to. It is much more comfortable that I expected it to be. I am greatly appreciative for her relaxing state and her amazing advice and reminders.
Terri is attentive, thoughtful, funny and relatable and gets to the root of exactly what is bothering me every time I talk to her! I really enjoyed working with her. Great sessions and advice, and methods I can carry forward with me in my life for many years to come.
I feel like when I finally gave BetterHelp a shot for myself, it was one of the best decision I made. I love talking with Terri and she makes me feel so much better. Even when my problems feel small she reminds me that they are important.
Terri is literally perfect on every level! I truly can not believe I have even gotten so lucky to have matched with her.... From professional to personal and everything in between she is outstanding...
Terri is a compassionate person who really listens and provides valuable and practical insight. She helps define goals and different methods by which to attain them. Terri provides a safe, judgment-free environment in which I can be honest with her and myself. I am so lucky BetterHelp matched us!
It was very difficult for me to reach out and ask for help since I am such a control freak and micromanager. I was so happy to be matched with Terri. She is lovely, supportive, a wonderful listener, and has great coping suggestions for me. My life is markedly improved since I began my sessions with Terri.
Terri is amazing! She is helping me through a number of issues and most of all helping me to realize that what I am feeling is ok.
Terri is great! I feel like she completely gets me and understands what my feelings are and where they are coming from.
