I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 14 years of post master level experience, and 17 years of Mental Health and behavioral Counseling with children, couples and family units. I am a passionate advocate and help clients gain access to resources while confronting their personal issues, such as mental illness, addiction, and abuse. “I SEE YOU, DO YOU SEE ME?” - This is my personal reference of engagement to begin the process in helping you by actively listening in a non-judgmental manner, and by being open to your feedback in each session to promote a safe place for us to identify and work through areas of direction for your healing. In building a therapeutic relationship between you and myself is to begin with a warm welcome and thank you to you by allowing this journey of engagement between us. All relationships take risks and I am honored to provide a space for open dialogue between us. I combine many therapeutic modalities to develop your treatment plan by using a strengths-based approach to empower goals tailored to your needs and areas of concern. I use Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, which is an evidenced-based psychotherapy designed to help people with emotional dyregulation to treat mood disorders, suicidal ideation, and for change in behavioral patterns such as self-harm and substance abuse. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which is a psycho-social intervention that aims to improve your mental health by focusing on challenging and changing unhelpful cognitive distortion and behaviors, improving emotional regulation, and the development of personal coping strategies that target solving current problems. I use Narrative Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing which is a form of psychotherapy that seeks to help people identify their values and skills and knowledge they have to live these values, so they can effectively confront the problems they face in a safe manner. This may also provide space to reflect on historical trauma and family values as it relates to the individual and their goals. My goal is to establish a connection, whereby both the you and I will partner, addressing that each person is an individual and worthy of a safe space to heal.

Welcome, My name is Daniel Romo and I am in the field of helping people feel that they matter. I was born and raised in Southern California. I completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology at California State University Fullerton and Masters of Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) with a Specialization in Trauma and Latinx Studies at Pacific Oaks College. I started practicing therapy and completed my trainee-ship providing School-Based services to elementary and secondary schools in the Pasadena area and DIS Designated Instructional Services for a non-public school and a Non-profit organization in the Pasadena area in 2015. In 2011 I started working in the mental health field servicing at-risk youth and families at a residential level 14 facility as a Mental Health Wellness Specialist providing life skills and helping youth improve their cognitive functioning. I have utilized the skills I have gained through my education and prior positions as a Mental Health Therapist at various non-profit agencies and as a Community Wellness Specialist by assisting clients in planning short-term and long-term goals, while being sensitive to their backgrounds and specific needs. I believe that individuals of all backgrounds require assistance and support in setting goals and meeting them, from a professional who is cognizant and accommodating of limitations and diversity. My experience working at various non-profits has afforded me the opportunity to develop therapeutic skills and expand on personal attributes vital to the therapeutic process. Providing therapeutic services with various non-profits has also enabled me to interact with and assist at-risk youth through individual, family, and group counseling on issues ranging from severe mental health diagnoses like depression disorders, psychotic disorders, attention and impulse-control disorders, anger management, interpersonal relationship difficulties and substance abuse. As a result, I have become more adept at interacting with clients from a variety of backgrounds including the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community and have developed a passion for helping clientele that might not otherwise have access to therapeutic services, except through a community agency. I am dedicated to fostering a safe environment and working with each individual to develop customized plans to improve their quality of life. As a Mental Health Therapist, my approach is client and culturally centered. I have worked at various non-profit agencies and have been trained in a variety of approaches: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT, Family Systems, Object Relations, Existential/Humanistic, and what I have found in working with individuals and families is approaching therapy by fostering a safe environment and working with each individual to develop a customized plan to improve their quality of life.
