Megan Rockwood
Thank you for taking the time to view my profile! The field of psychology and behavior has been my academic and career path for over 10 years. My work is my passion and I enjoy watching others grown and flourish on their paths. I completed my Bachelors of Science in Psychology with concentrations in clinical rehabilitation and psychology of addictions in 2006 through Purdue University. While pursuing this degree, I aided in a longitudinal research study focused on intelligence and information processing through the Purdue Institute for Behavioral Sciences. While earning my Master’s, I volunteered for Riley’s Children Hospital as a behavior therapist with autistic children. During the same time, I also completed two practicums and internships (university setting and corrections), focusing my skills aiding adults with intense personal struggles and family dysfunction. While working with adults, I found my passion in those struggling daily with emotional concerns and addictions. My Master of Arts in clinical psychology was completed in 2008 at University of Indianapolis with a concentration in mental health counseling. Since then, I have worked in outpatient as well as inpatient settings, while also teaching psychology part-time as adjunct faculty for a local college. Thank you again for taking the time to learn some history about me and I look forward to sharing more of what I have learned through experience with you on your journey.

The approach of counseling that I utilize addresses your physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual needs. I have done a lot of work with parenting problems, depression, anxiety, ADHD, kids who are being bullied, and children/adolescence who have and a specialized school plan such as an IEP or 504. I have also worked with divorce issues and custody issues. My therapeutic style is an integrative, client-centered manner that creates an environment to ensure that the highest quality care is provided. I use a variety of therapeutic techniques that include Behavioral, Cognitive-Behavioral, Solution-Focused, Mindfulness-based Therapy, as well as Psychoeducational. I promote growth with my clients by offering a safe, accepting atmosphere, so that you can feel heard, validated, and supported.
Deborah Thompson
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 22 years experience and graduated with Honors. I have experience working with clients with concerns of depression, anxiety/stress, grief and loss, relationship issues, and women’s issues. I may use at anytime during a session any of the following interventions; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Client Centered Therapy, and Stress Management. Oftentimes, the origin of our individual emotional struggles are not always apparent to us. We can become alarmed when these struggles begin to impact on our day to day living and relationships. It is then that clients most often begin to reach out for therapy to gain further insight into their thoughts, actions, and feelings. Distorted thinking patterns can fuel low self esteem and affect every area in a persons life. A once used defense mechanism may no longer be useful or beneficial to your mental health and once identified can be discussed in therapy and clients can learn more adaptive ways of coping. I will do my part to provide a relaxed, compassionate, and validating environment for you to explore your life situation.

Before seeing your Columbia City therapist, prep for your session by reading to understand the process. You might write a list of questions you want to ask your psychotherapist, any emotional pain you may feel, and the ways in which you hope to improve. When you attend your session, you can let our therapists know if you have any concerns or feel unsure about what to talk about. Columbia City therapists here may help guide you with open-ended therapeutic questions while offering mental health services. Should I find a therapist or psychologist for therapy if I feel fine?
Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what it might entail. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or specific condition. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback. A Columbia City licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.
Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find with a Columbia City counselor can be dependent on your process.
People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles that a counselor can help with.
Is mental health care and therapy with a therapist worth it?
Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. A psychologist can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based psychologist in Columbia City, Indiana can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.

Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions during telehealth appointments?
The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
