10 years of experience as a mental health therapist

I first became interested in working with mental health when I returned home from Afghanistan while in the Army National Guard. I have seen many friends fall victim to substance abuse, depression, and PTSD. I swore that I would work on being in the position to best help veterans and others who go through difficult situations. Being an addictions counselor and Social Worker is very personal to me. It is my passion. Seeing that I already had a bachelor's in Community Health, I made it my goal to become some kind of practitioner. When I learned about Social Work, I was overwhelmed with the idea of getting my Masters and working towards a license. A few years later, I finally received my Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I am proud of my license and it took 5 years of hard work to attain. I have now been working in the mental health and addiction field for roughly 10 years. I first got into counseling in the military. After a few years of working in inpatient mental health and substance abuse, I spent some time outpatient. I specialize in addictions but have much experience with people with depression, anxiety, and trauma. I have an extra certified credential of being a Certified Trauma Therapy Professional. I also have experience helping people dealing with relationships, careers, and other life issues as well. Also, I have experience working with those who have a criminal background. I try to listen and understand your problems and point of view the best I can. Based on this I work with you to develop a plan to help you make improvements. My main focus is to help you make a positive change. I hope to work around your needs. It's my hope that I can help support you through whatever it is you're going through. Some people just want support, while others want formal therapy. Just let me know what it is you're looking for. Sometimes people just need to talk to someone or need positive encouragement. I am happy to give this as well. I am here to be a positive person in the lives of people that need more positive people. In my free time, I like being with my family and animals. I like to attend sporting events and concerts.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Indiana. I received a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Purdue University and a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Christian Theological Seminary. I have had the opportunity to work in and gain knowledge from a diverse collection of settings that include elementary, middle and high school, hospital chaplaincy department, private practice and private agency working with families in the child welfare system. Each of these settings have provided me with hands on experience working with individuals and families in crisis, as well as those who are faced with navigating some of life’s challenges such as divorce, loss, and addiction. As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I love a systems approach, understanding that we do not exist in a vacuum, but rather are part of larger systems. I take a non-judgmental, warm approach to therapy and I believe in tailoring my therapy towards my clients individual needs. Together we will establish goals and design a path towards a healthier way of being. I draw from a multitude of therapeutic techniques that include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solutions Focused Therapy. The first step towards seeking help is often the most difficult. I am excited that you are here and look forward to taking this journey along side you.

25 years of experience as a mental health therapist

In my 20 years of experience as a psychotherapist, I've found that when people seek help they're often at their most frustrated, sad, angry, or confused. We can feel lost, alone, and believe others can never really understand how tiring it is to act okay & always be strong when there is only pain & chaos going on inside of us. Maybe you are to the point where you just don't have the energy to do the things you want to do or even used to enjoy doing. You may be struggling with deep emotions or conflicts in your family, and no one else understands. Maybe the confusion and stress is so great that you don’t even know how to put it into words. Therapy is a safe place where you can learn more about who you are, and learn the skills to get you where you want to be in life. I have experience working with adults, adolescents, children, couples, and families struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, or significant life changes. My approach in therapy is meeting you where you are emotionally, and assisting you in setting & achieving your goals. We will work as a team, and use your strengths to develop more constructive thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. My treatment approach combines cognitive-behavioral, rational emotive, and motivational interviewing techniques, all geared toward assisting you in becoming the person you want to be. It takes courage to seek out help and work towards making changes. If you are ready to take that step, I am here to support and empower you to make the changes you desire.

Hello my name is Kristin Rinehart. I am excited to offer counseling through BetterHelp because it gives access to counseling in different ways that traditional counseling does not. Reaching out for help for your health and wellness is so important and can be difficult to do for the first time. Good job for considering putting time into your self. Just a little about me: I obtained my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Otterbein College and Master of Social Work degree from The University of Pittsburgh. I have been a licensed independent social worker for 30 years. I am licensed in the state of Florida, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. I am passionate about treating clients of all ages struggling with trauma, anxiety, depression, stress management and life transitions. I find helping others achieve peace and happiness to be the most rewarding part of the social work profession. I have worked in settings such as community mental health, crisis residential treatment, crisis intervention, school based counseling and integrated behavioral health in a Federally Qualified Health Center. My therapy style includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Time Line Therapy, Strength and Faith based approaches. I believe the most important aspect of a therapeutic relationship is for my clients to know they have someone on their team encouraging them to move beyond the past, live in the present while working toward reaching goals for the future. I am available for messaging, live chat and phone appointments at this time. I prefer to schedule directly with my clients so they get the appointment day and time that works best for their schedule. Video is provided as requested.

Understanding the type of therapy you'd like to search for is crucial before finding a therapist or psychologist in Dunkirk. Perhaps you're interested in narrowing your search for a psychotherapist that can offer psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), talk therapy, provide group therapy, marriage and family therapy for individuals or couples, or couples therapy. Each type of therapy can offer various benefits and address or treat different disorders. If you're still unsure or are new to counseling in Dunkirk, feel free to contact the provider via email to find out which methods they practice.

It is also important to understand that mental health professionals in the United States are accredited to provide care, helping individuals and couples, with a variety of licenses. These include licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT), licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), and clinical psychologist or doctor of psychology (PsyD). Regardless of their licensure, they are trained to treat individuals and couples counseling, and sometimes children, in any type of therapy in the Dunkirk region and in the state of Indiana. Find a therapist under any of these distinctions and know that the sessions they offer can provide a safe place to heal.

A mental health counselor working through their own in-person therapy practice in Dunkirk or online may assist clients in improving healthy relationships, communication skills, working through life transitions, couples counseling, managing a mood disorder, improving coping skills, self help tips, offer life coaching, family therapy, or change in negative thinking patterns. A therapist may also provide a safe place and validation for clients experiencing emotional pain, or that simply want a psychological assessment. Verified providers can provide licensed marriage and couples therapy, tailor to individual needs, and create a therapeutic relationship as a National Certified Counselor.

Many people have sensitive topics that they may feel ashamed to discuss with their friends or partner. With a lot of people in IN, therapists may be booked out with clients. Through the list of profiles above and others within BetterHelp's team, you may be able to find a psychologist within 24 to 48 hours. If you're searching to find a a nearby psychotherapist close to 47336 or the surrounding zip codes, consider others available through the BetterHelp site. No matter if you are seeking help from therapists in your area or beyond, online therapy can be a great option.

How should I prepare for my first therapy session with a Dunkirk counselor?

Before seeing your Dunkirk therapist, prep for your session by reading to understand the therapy process. You might write a list of questions you want to ask your psychotherapist, any emotional pain you may feel, and the ways in which you hope to improve. When you attend your session, let them know if you have any concerns about therapy or feel unsure about what to talk about. They may help guide you with open-ended therapeutic questions while offering mental health services. The first session will often serve as an intake to get to know you as a person and learn why you're attending therapy in Dunkirk.

Should I find a therapist or psychologist for therapy if I feel fine?

Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what therapy entails. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or condition to attend therapy. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback and advice from a therapist. A Dunkirk licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.

Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find through therapy with a Dunkirk counselor can be dependent on your process.

People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles that a counselor can help with.

Is mental health care and therapy with a therapist worth it?

Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. A psychologist can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based psychologist in Dunkirk, Indiana can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.

Dunkirk has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online therapy to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change therapists easily at any time. Many people struggling with anxiety and depression, substance abuse, body image issues, and more find therapists that are a good fit for them, feel supported, and gain further insight into their lives through internet-based therapy.

Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions during telehealth appointments?

The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
