Laronne James
Hi there! My name is Laronne (la-Ron) and I have been involved in several aspects of the mental health field for fifteen years. I am a Texan and currently work in a suburb of Dallas. I have a partner of 17 years and a 33 year old son. I began my journey as a criminal justice addictions professional and worked with a variety of clients to include those with intellectual disabilities who had been charged with a variety of crimes as well as federal parolees who are having issues with substance abuse. I also facilitated a group for high school kids who had tested positive for (mostly) marijuana during random testing. I worked with people with autism and intellectual disabilities from 2004 through 2017 working closely with psychiatrists and performed as a team leader. While working on obtaining my license I worked in a psychiatric hospital in the intensive outpatient program during my internship. After obtaining my license I sought employment with a social service agency so that I could work with a wide variety of people with a wide range of concerns. I enjoy working with different cultures and subcultures and most often work with people with substance abuse, depression, anxiety, past trauma and those dealing through life changes such as grief, disability, and retirement, forced or otherwise. Although an existentialist at heart, my therapeutic approach is primarily Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I feel this approach works very well for a myriad of issues and is relatively short term and is an action therapy which provides working tools and is client driven.

I want you to know that no matter what happened in the past or what is going on in your life, you have every right to be happy and you are going to find it. My approaches are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person Centered Therapy, Mindfulness-based and Spiritual. My view of therapy is finding “Truth, "about life, human nature, relationship, human condition, generational cycle, upbringing,...etc., which will help you understand them deeply, gain insight, and ultimately "set you free" from anxiety, panic attacks, depression, and/or stress, overall free from human suffering. Furthermore, therapy is nurturing “inner world,” recognizing you are not just “Thoughts,” “Emotions,” “Body,” but much more beyond, above, infinite, timeless, formless, and eternal “Being” with “Soul” and “Spirit” which is the essence of who you are, “Perfect,” “Complete,” “Whole,” “Original,” and “Enough." Therapy is the journey to realize the essence of who you are as a human being not as a human doing, practice being in the present moment to live not at the mercy of external world, eventually living with inner joy, freedom, integrity, and peace.

My initial training as a therapist was in premarital and marriage counseling, a vital part of my practice that to this day I enjoy very much. I have approximately 20 years of experience and am licensed in the state of Texas. In addition to counseling couples, I have also worked with persons coming out of the sex industry. It is my passion to work with those who struggle with severe trauma and emotional abuse, as well as major depressive disorders, bipolar I & II, schizoaffective, co-occurring and substance abuse disorders. I have a great deal of experience working with dissociative, borderline and personality disorders. I am well-versed and extremely comfortable working with persons of different cultures. My motto is, “reveal the root, expose the lie and heal the wounded spirit.” I utilize a trauma-informed, person-centered, psychodynamic approach in therapy and often incorporate CBT, DBT and mindfulness techniques. I strive to meet the unique and individual needs of each client and adjust my approach accordingly. I am a certified revisioning practitioner, a technique that simulates re-attachment for grief resolution and ego-integration and am certified by the FBI National Academy in resiliency training. I also enjoy training local police departments throughout the Metroplex in critical incident and mental health orientation trainings. Inner peace is something that many of us seek, but sometimes we feel stuck in unhealthy patterns of thinking and behavior (that’s often handed to us early on) that make life feel challenging. Building awareness of our emotions, thoughts, and behaviors can open the doorway to practicing new ways of being in the world that cultivates inner peace. This is the journey that I seek to help others on. I especially enjoy working with those seeking to cultivate healthy relationships with themselves and others, those going through spiritual transitions and healing religious trauma, and those in the LGBTQ+ community. In my work, I often help clients tease out the unhealthy messages they may have internalized from cultural and familial dynamics. My hope for the clients that I work with is that, through deepening awareness and boldly trying new perspectives and behaviors, they will bit by bit begin to see true positive change in their emotional experiences and relationships.
