Welcome. Deciding to begin therapy can bring up a mix of emotions: uncertainty, anxiety, fear, or even hope. As a therapist, I deeply respect the courage it takes to take that first step. My hope is to walk alongside you as you navigate your own journey toward healing, clarity, and growth. My approach to counseling is eclectic, drawing from a variety of methods to best support your unique needs. I believe our past experiences shape how we show up in the present, and that exploring these layers can lead to meaningful insight and change. I also work from a strengths-based perspective, holding the belief that both children and adults are resilient and, with the right support, can access the tools they need to move forward. In addition to addressing a range of mental health concerns, I have a particular understanding of issues related to adoption, foster care, and multicultural identity. These are deeply personal and complex areas, often connected to core questions of identity: Who am I? Where do I come from? Where do I belong? I have completed specialized training through the Center for Adoption Support and Education, and I strive to offer a space where these stories can be explored with care, curiosity, and respect. You may be wondering whether we would be a good fit, and that is an important question. We may work well together if: *You are hoping to work with a therapist who is warm, supportive, and able to gently challenge you when needed. *You value an eclectic, individualized approach to counseling that draws from multiple methods to meet your unique needs. *You appreciate a strengths-based perspective that recognizes resilience in both children and adults. *You are looking for someone who values mutual respect, honesty, and time, and who can both hold space and help you move toward solutions. *You want a therapist you can laugh with, cry with, and grow with, someone who is present, engaged, and committed to the work alongside you. If any of this resonates with you, please feel free to reach out to discuss availability. I would be honored to be part of your journey.

Hello! I am Dr. Rose. I am a psychologist with 15 years of experience providing therapy services. I completed my pre-doctoral internship at the Cincinnati VA Medical Hospital and obtained my graduate education from Indiana State University. I am dually licensed in Wisconsin and Indiana. While residing in Indiana, I worked in a very rural and low income area. I am currently based in Wisconsin, where I have the opportunity to work with individuals from both the more populated areas, as well as the rural areas. Additionally, I am based along the I94 corridor, so I have an interest in providing treatment to individuals who are victims of sex trafficking. Other populations I have a strong interest in working with are the LGBTQ+ population, specifically transgender individuals. I also work with individuals with depression, Bipolar, anxiety, ADHD, anger, trauma, self-esteem, and relationship problems. In my work with individuals, I find that it can often be helpful to explore the impact that the childhood upbringing and nuclear family has on present problems and relationships. I typically use an eclectic approach in sessions, adopting a variety of techniques. Some techniques I typically use are Psychodynamic, mindfulness, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Person-centered Therapy. However, I most often use Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. My therapeutic approach is first, and foremost, to be real. You can always expect that I will give you honest and direct answers. I am a caring provider and I want you to succeed in being the best person you can be. I will work closely with you as a team to help you accomplish your treatment goals. I do hold the national Psychologist license, which gives you some flexibility in where you have your therapy sessions. However, not every state participates in the national license. If you plan to travel and want to have a therapy session during your travels, please check with me to ensure you will be located in a participating state.

My name is Mary Hargarten and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I am located in Milwaukee, WI. I have been doing therapy in person and online for 25 years. I have done therapy with individuals, couples and families. I have worked with clients around issues such as anxiety, depression, panic attacks, relationship issues, family issues, domestic violence, self-esteem, sexual abuse, women’s issues, aging and issues at different life stages. It is my belief that we all have the resources we need inside of us to cope with the challenges that life throws at us. Sometime we just need a little help finding those coping skills and bringing them out. We all have strengths that we can develop and build on to help us cope better in day to day life. I believe that our family of origin can have a lot of influence on our ideas and beliefs so it is important to explore that influence and how it may be helping or hurting us in the present day. I believe in treating the whole person and in trying to find a good balance in all areas of our lives - physical, emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual. My style is to be warm, caring, non-judgmental, compassionate and I have a good sense of humor. I try to step into your shoes so I can better understand exactly where you are coming from. You are the expert on your life and I am the expert on therapeutic strategies so we need to work together to see what will work best to get you where you want to go in your life. I think it takes tremendous courage to go to therapy and talk about your deepest feelings and fears. So just taking that step shows you are already moving in the right direction to shift your life in the way you want it to go. I use different types of therapy - Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Bowen’s Family System’s therapy. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy helps us look at our thoughts and beliefs and actions and how they are working positively or negatively for us. Solution Focused Therapy is about focusing on one issue at a time and setting goals to solve the problem. Motivational Interviewing is about finding out what motivates you to make changes in your behaviors. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy teaches how to accept the things we cannot change and commit to changing the things we can. It also teaches Mindfulness which is a very useful tool in everyday life. Bowen’s Family System Therapy talks about how we each need to “individuate” from our families by developing our own values and beliefs as an individual. I truly look forward to working with you. I love doing this work and being reminded daily of the strength of the human spirit.

Find a therapist near you in Springfield, Wisconsin

Finding a therapist near you in Springfield, Wisconsin starts with matching to a licensed professional who fits your needs, schedule, and goals. Wisconsin is home to people with diverse mental health needs across urban, suburban, and rural communities, which can make it challenging to find care. BetterHelp connects you with a licensed therapist through tailored matching, so you can begin care from home or wherever works for you.

The network includes over 30,000 licensed therapists globally, and over 4 million people have used BetterHelp to find support through online therapy. During matching, 93% of user preferences are met, which helps you connect with a therapist suited to what you are looking for. Whether you are searching for help with anxiety, trauma, affordable or insurance covered therapy, weekend or flexible scheduling, or virtual sessions, you can find a therapist and get started when you are ready.

Why work with a licensed therapist near you?

Working with a licensed therapist near you gives you access to professional mental health support from someone trained to help you understand and manage what you are going through. A licensed therapist can offer evidence-based approaches, a steady space to talk, and guidance tailored to your situation. In Wisconsin, online therapy can make that care more accessible, since sessions happen from home or wherever you are, without the need to travel to an office. This can help if your schedule is full, if travel is difficult, or if you simply prefer a more discreet setting. You can learn more about what a therapist does on the therapist role page.

Online therapy can be especially helpful for people living across Wisconsin, where access to in-person mental health care may vary by location.

What concerns can therapists help with?

Therapists can help with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety and stress, depression, trauma and PTSD, self-esteem and identity, people-pleasing and fear of rejection, insomnia and racing thoughts, workplace stress and burnout, substance use, parenting and co-parenting stress, grief and loss, and relationship and family challenges. Therapists on BetterHelp may draw on approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), depending on your needs and goals. You can explore support for specific concerns on pages such as generalized anxiety disorder, major depressive disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, and eating disorders.

Please note that therapists on BetterHelp do not provide psychiatric medication management or formal diagnoses.

Online therapy vs. in-person therapy in Wisconsin

Online therapy and in-person therapy both connect you with a licensed professional, and the main difference is how you meet. In Wisconsin, online therapy through BetterHelp lets you have sessions by phone, video, or in-app messaging, so you can meet from home or on a schedule that fits your life. In-person therapy takes place at an office and may involve travel and set appointment windows. Online therapy may be more accessible for people with busy schedules, limited transportation, or a preference for a more discreet setting. Both formats can support meaningful progress, so the right choice often comes down to what fits your life.
