I'm sorry to hear about the issues you've experienced. I will do my best to help you work through some of these issues so you can get on with having a fulfilling happy life. I know that probably sounds impossible right now. I realize you may have some anxiety starting with a new therapist and trying to figure out the Better Help process.  I'll do my best to be here to walk you through step by step.   I've been working in the field as a professional therapist for right at a decade now. I have a Masters Degree in Counseling and have completed the requirements for professional licensure in West Virginia and currently in the process of being licensed in Virginia. Areas of specialization include working with the LGBTQIA community that I myself am a member of, gender identity issues and sexuality ,all types of relationship issues including infidelity and with consensual non-monogamy, self love/self development, mood disorders like depression and anxiety. Grief and shame are also two more areas that I've found have been of interest to many of my clients. I believe that EVERYONE deserves quality therapy, and that can sometimes be hard to find in WV for members of marginalized communities. I believe that you the client are the expert of your life. My job is to walk alongside you and help you to sort things out. I do not believe in telling clients what to do or giving them answers, but will help guide them to find their own way. I practice from a CBT/Humanistic framework, but will bring in other therapeutic approaches if it is deemed they would work better with the client. I also believe that therapy does not occur only when therapist and client are interacting. To keep the client engaged between session and to give them opportunities to try out the skills learned in session, between-session work will be given as appropriate. Sessions are ~45 minutes long, and our first session will be a "get to know you" type of session where I tell you about myself (education, experience, orientation) and give you opportunity to ask any questions you might have. You will also be asked to tell me a little about yourself and your situation including what brought you to seek treatment. One of the first things that I do with clients after the initial intake session is a goals sheet. It has 9 different subsection categories including relationship goals, professional goals, educational goals, health/fitness goals, etc. I find that it really helps clients hone in on what they want to accomplish during their time in therapy. If it sounds ok with you, we will start there after our initial get to know you/paperwork session.   1. Professional goals (career, job, livelihood) 2. Physical Goals (body, health, weight, eating/exercising) 3. Relationship goals (with family, friends, and romantic relationships) 4. Financial goals (money you'd like to save, financial habits, etc) 5. Emotional/Mental health goals (e.g. better communication, increase self esteem, coping skills) 6. Spiritual goals (connection, practice, meditation, etc) 7. Experiences/Hobbies goals (travel, bucket list) 8. Educational goals (take a class, start/finish a certificate or degree) 9. Philanthropic goals (giving back, volunteering, helping others) I hope this gives you a good idea that I pay a lot of attention to client goals. We will complete a goal sheet about every 6 months so I can make sure Im structuring therapy in the way that will best help you and to see if there are goals you have completed in that time or new ones you'd like to add! Feel free to look at my availability for next week and schedule a spot that will be most convenient for you. I look forward to talking with you! Kia Hebb, MS, LPC Licensed Professional Counselor

I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia. I offer therapy for people of all ages and all mental health and substance use difficulties, in whatever combination they occur. I have also helped couples and families work out their problems. As a social worker I look at every area of life, believing that where we live, our physical wellness, our relationships, the way we think, our past, the emotions we experience, what gives our lives meaning and purpose and often so many other factors all play a part in making our lives what they are, so the treatment I offer looks at all of these. Everything we talk about is strictly confidential, allowing us to talk about anything and everything. I never judge and you can expect me to be honest and truthful with you. I absolutely believe in the potential for everyone to experience a positive change in their life. I use a number of different therapeutic styles many of which include helping people manage their problems, figure out what is really important to them, work out what they want from life and what they can do to move them towards their hopes and dreams. I am an American citizen but was born and spent the first 30 years of my life in England and I still retain much of my accent. My first career was working for the British government. I returned to school and obtained my Master’s degree in Social Work at the age of 40. As well as academic and theoretical knowledge, I draw on a broad range of life experiences including having had my own personal struggles with both mental health problems and substance use. At present I offer standard office hour appointments, Monday to Friday 8:15 a.m. to 6:00 pm (Eastern Time), although I have accommodated individual scheduling requirements in the past. Our initial visit includes a lot of information gathering to help me better understand what I can do to help you. I look forward to meeting you, hearing your life story and helping you write the next chapter.

Hello, I’m a licensed psychologist based in West Virginia, and I provide therapy that is respectful, thoughtful, and grounded in both professional training and real-life experience. I earned my M.S. in Counseling Psychology in 1989 and have spent many years working with individuals and couples facing concerns such as anxiety, depression, stress, anger, parenting challenges, relationship difficulties, and major life transitions. I have extensive experience providing psychotherapy online and believe that teletherapy can be a highly effective and meaningful way to do this work. My approach is collaborative and nonjudgmental. I strive to create a safe, open space where you can talk honestly about what you’re experiencing—whether that involves daily stress, long-standing emotional patterns, questions about identity or values, or difficulties in relationships. Together, we focus on understanding what’s happening, identifying practical steps forward, and building resilience over time. In addition to my clinical work, my background includes military service, many years in higher education, and long-standing involvement in community and leadership roles. These experiences have given me a deep appreciation for people from diverse backgrounds and for the complex pressures that work, family, culture, and personal expectations can place on us. I also understand that for some people, faith, spirituality, or past religious experiences—positive or painful—are part of their story. I am comfortable working with these issues in a way that respects your beliefs and values, without assumptions or pressure. Starting therapy can feel intimidating, especially if you’re unsure where to begin. My role is to walk alongside you, help you make sense of what you’re facing, and support you as you move toward changes that feel meaningful and sustainable for you. If you’re looking for a thoughtful, experienced therapist who values both emotional depth and practical progress, I’d be glad to work with you.

People seek therapy for many reasons. Some are navigating ongoing mental health concerns, while others want guidance during stressful periods or major life transitions. You do not need a mental health diagnosis to work with a therapist. Many individuals seek therapy to improve communication, strengthen relationships, manage stress, or gain greater self-awareness.

Online therapy vs. in-person therapy in West Virginia

When searching for a therapist near me in West Virginia, many people compare online therapy with traditional in-person care. Online therapy offers several potential advantages:

  • Greater accessibility: Attend sessions from anywhere with an internet connection

  • Flexible scheduling: Sessions that fit around work, family, or school commitments
  • Expanded provider options: Access licensed therapists across West Virginia, not just nearby offices

Research shows that online therapy can be effective for many mental health concerns. Online therapy may also reduce barriers such as transportation challenges, long commutes, or limited local availability, especially in larger or more rural counties across West Virginia.

Finding a therapist near me that accepts insurance

Many people looking for a therapist near me in West Virginia want to know whether insurance is an option.

Many providers on BetterHelp now accept major insurance carriers in select states. In many states, certain therapists on BetterHelp may be in-network with specific insurance plans. Coverage depends on your plan, provider, and therapist availability.

If insurance coverage is not available, BetterHelp’s flexible subscription model remains an option, with online therapy typically costing $70 to $100 per week, billed weekly or monthly. Additional discounts or financial aid may also be available for a lower price.
