About me

I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in North Carolina with over 46 years of experience in community mental health, employee assistance, private practice and school-based counseling. I have worked with clients with a wide variety of concerns including relationship issues, parenting problems, depression, anxiety, stress and coping, and career or work/life challenges.

My counseling style is warm and interactive. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach allows me to meet you where you are in your personal journey. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. We may use Gottman method couples counseling, cognitive behavioral therapy, Triple P parenting, mindfulness-based stress reduction or other person-centered approaches that we agree are best to meet those needs.

It takes courage to seek for a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. I am here to support and empower you.

I look forward to working with you!

Tom is slow speaking, and a great listener. His home situation sometimes makes scheduling a call difficult, but he is almost always available by message.

Working with Tom has been the best therapy experience I’ve ever had. He has helped me through the most difficult times of my life, and I’m on the road to a much better way of living. Thank you, Tom!

Tom is consistently kind, thoughtful and pleasant. His years of experience are evident quickly when you begin working together. He has given me multiple coping strategies as well as wise insights that I think about often. I came to Better Help during the pandemic when my therapist retired and Tom has helped me with that transition. I feel like he has given me accountability as well as thoughtful nudges along the way.
