Thank you for visiting my profile! I am here to help you. I have many years of counseling experience with adults and adolescents that have substance abuse issues, as well as depression, anxiety, PTSD, anger issues; relationship, family, career or adjustment concerns. I have military counseling experience as well. I began my career as an adjunct professor in Psychology in the San Francisco Bay Area, then began to work clinically as a community based mental health clinician, with adults who were diagnosed mainly with schizophrenia.
I then worked as a clinician with both adults and adolescents who had mental health and substance abuse disorders, in both outpatient and partial hospitalization treatment programs. At this time I was licensed as a professional counselor- LPC and as an LADC, licensed alcohol and drug addiction counselor. After completing the requirements for an LMFT, licensed marriage and family therapist, I began a private counseling practice.
After 3 years I was offered a position as a Psychologist with the Federal government, for the Department of Defense, U.S. Army at Fort Sam Houston. I worked clinically, as a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist for the Department of Veteran Affairs and as a Counseling Psychologist for the U. S. Army, at Fort Bliss and Fort Sam Houston.
I prefer a cognitive behavioral (CBT) approach in sessions, as opposed to a psychodynamic approach. I like to focus on behavioral changes, to help the client meet his or her needs/goals. Thank you for your consideration. If you have any questions, please write. Tina LaPorta

Tina is great and really accommodating. She (pretty much instantly) recognized where many of my strongest anxieties and fears were coming from, and immediately started working with me to challenge, confront, and inure myself to those anxieties. I experienced noticeable relief and healthy changes in my habits within two weeks. I am so glad that I started talking to her.

As a therapist, she has a very balanced mixture of listening, asking relevant questions, and offering suggestions on alternate ways of looking at or handling a situation. It feels like she respects how I look at my own circumstances, while also helping me challenge them where they are harmful.
I intend to keep seeing her for the time being, since life is throwing new stressors at me, and her help in getting perspective has been tremendous.

Tina has been a great help to me. She listens attentively and cuts through the noise to reflect back to me exactly how I feel and think about the problems I'm having. I can tell she's heard all sides of how I feel. She's empathic but also pushes me to challenge my thoughts if they are irrational or unhelpful. She makes me feels like she really cares as she has sometimes messaged me even outside our video sessions to check in and ask how things are going. I like her down to earth, authentic approach, which doesn't make me feel patronised. I really feel like she's on my side. Highly recommend her as a therapist!
Written on Feb 14, 2022 after therapy with Tina for 6 months on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, addictions, relationship issues, trauma and abuse, intimacy-related issues, self esteem, and career difficulties
I saw Tina over a few months regarding issues I had in my self-confidence and stresses at work which interfered greatly with my private life.
Tina helped me with these issues, coaching me to be more assertive to voice my concerns at work. She helped me to build my confidence and self-assurance, and encouraged me to apply for a new job (which I later got) better suited to my interests and life goals, which I wouldn’t have been able to do without her guidance and advice.
She is always patient and understanding but gives a gentle push to ensure that you are advancing and improving. She helped me set both short and long term goals in simple steps so that I was always achieving but never felt overwhelmed and could celebrate doing these steps.
Tina has made me feel much more happier, self assured, and optimistic about myself and my future.
Thank you Tina! :)

I felt comfortable and at ease with my first session. I took away great tips in helping me to be a better version of myself

Tina was an excellent therapist and was an amazing help. I am 26 yo male and
this was my first experience with a therapist. I had anxiety, particularly with interactions with women in general but also intimate relationships. Before talking to Tina my anxiety would be around 7-8/10.
After a few weeks of therapy my anxiety is pretty much gone I would say it is closer to 1-2/10 and at times 0/10. Tina helped me understand my triggers for anxiety, how to react to it, strategies to prevent it and deal with it and my life has improved significantly. Tina listens very well and gives great advice. If I ever have any issues I would happily contact Tina again and I would highly recommend Tina based on my experience.
