I graduated from UCLA’s MSW program in 1985 and since then have both been in private practice and working in a college setting as a counselor and professor.
I consider myself to be an integrative therapist, drawing from a variety of therapeutic orientations, including Cognitive-Behavioral, Mindfulness based treatments, EMDR, Client-Centered, and psychodynamic therapies. My clinical work is guided by several core principles: a respect for all people, an interest in the cultural backgrounds that shape us, a belief that we are doing the best we can with what we have available to us in the moment, and a focus on the unique strengths and challenges we bring to our struggles. I have worked with individuals, families, and groups on a variety of issues, including identity issues, grief and loss, chronic illness, trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and a large variety of psychiatric illnesses. My goal with each client is to have a collaborative, open, and honest therapeutic relationship that will allow them to feel accepted, safe, and empowered. My style is empathic, gently challenging, culturally competent and friendly. I work with older teens through the elderly and have a special interest in women’s empowerment.
