About me

Hi you!
My name is Tracy -- I use she/her pronouns, and am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in Virginia and California. Since 2008 I have been practicing social work across the country -- in Virginia, New Orleans, New Mexico, San Diego, and even Mexico City for a little while. I've worked in a large variety of settings, from homeless shelters to acute care medical facilities to eating disorder centers to clients' homes. I've also worked with people of widely varying ages, races, orientations, cultural backgrounds and abilities. Getting to spend time with all of these humans, having meaningful interactions, and sharing in important life moments -- that's the good stuff of my work.

Along the way I have helped clients dealing with depression, anxiety, stress + burnout, substance use concerns, disordered eating + body image issues, relationship conflicts, health problems, family planning, and grief + bereavement. I have also counseled many people experiencing physical trauma, acute crisis, and major life-altering events. In sum, I work with people as they experience their own life's challenges.

My counseling style is warm, interactive, and authentic -- I love and believe in good therapy. I also believe in people treating each other with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. My perspective is that you are the expert on your life, and my role as your therapist is to be your advocate, your ally, and your confidant. When it's appropriate I will offer guidance, insights, and my perspective for you to consider. Other times I get that what's most important is to feel seen, heard, and understood. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, psychodynamic and rational-emotive counseling. I will tailor our interactions and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs and goals. Although it's often difficult emotions and experiences that propel people to seek therapy in the first place, once we get started you may also be surprised to find a place for humor and laughter in our sessions.

Engaging in therapy is a wonderful tool for growth, healing, insight, and expanding our capacities to more fully live our lives on our own terms. Therapy provides some dedicated time and space for those things. By choosing this path you are choosing to invest in yourself, your values + priorities, and your intentionally lived life.

Many therapists will say this because it's the truth: it takes courage to seek out what you want for your life and make the first steps towards change. So if you are ready, I am here and I look forward to working with you!

Tracy does excellent, artful work. She is warm, authentic, and responsive. Tracy does a great job of balancing support with gentle challenge, pushing me to grow while really hearing and empathizing with my pain and struggle. I feel consistently heard and understood in our sessions. Her recommendations for between session work and resources have been spot on as well. I wholeheartedly recommend her.
