Hi! My name is Tyela Smith, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker currently practicing in North Carolina. I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2011 with a Bachelors Degree in Psychology, then went on to obtain my Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Georgia in 2014. I began practicing in the field very shortly after graduating with my Masters, and have been working primarily with adults in community-based settings.
I have extensive experiencing working with clients facing a variety of struggles including anxiety, depression, severe mental health disorders, substance abuse and dependence, life changes, relationship problems, and physical and emotional trauma. My counseling style is primarily interactive and individualized. I believe that what works for one person does not necessarily work for another, so my primary role as a therapist is to be both your guide and your support. I utilize several approaches including cognitive-behavioral, motivational interviewing, solution-focused, and psychodynamic theories. I am devoted to helping you find more effective and healthy ways to cope while assisting you in identifying your personal strengths.
It is my personal commitment to provide a non-judgmental, supportive, and empathetic approach when working with you. I understand that therapy can be a difficult process, so I am looking forward to supporting and guiding you through your therapeutic journey.

Talking to Teyla feels as if I am speaking with a big sister with good advice. Does not feel forced nor spoken down when I have a concern of my actions. She is able to talk me through my thoughts as well as allow me to process things when I do something that isn’t right. It’s very comforting to finally find someone who understands a person like me
She listens and provides good techniques to try.
Tyela has been an outstanding counselor and am so thankful for her insight , support and empathy. I have been talking with her for months and she has been so consistent in checking in on me between our sessions . She is very good and being a person you can vent to while also guiding you through processing your feelings and thoughts I a very gentle way!
I sometimes wish that she would be a little more tough with me, but overall I have really enjoyed working with her and think she really listens and gives me good feedback and offers different ways to think about a problem. She responds quickly and that has been really nice for when I am in the middle of a panic attack or really having an issue keeping it together.
I’m just getting started but so far I really like working with Tyela!
Tyela is the best! It’s like talking to a friend. You can tell she truly cares what you have to say. She always makes me feel comfortable. She is very professional and checks in during the week to see how I’m doing. I feel comfortable to ask her questions or bring up concerns. She’s is amazing. Anyone is lucky to have her as their counselor.

Tyela is incredible. I’ve had many therapists before and I have finally found someone who is empathetic, non-judgmental, understanding of cultural backgrounds, as well as helps work through coping strategies over a period of time so that a positive mindset becomes habitual and sustainable! I view her not as a therapist who wants my money when I speak to her, but more so as a friend who I look forward to speaking with and trust with my inner self.
