About me

I am very excited about continuing my intensive focus on the way that relationships develop and thrive as a result of non-judgmental, positive regard. It is important to create a safe space that is sensitive to each client’s lifestyle, culture, and beliefs. An excellent communicator, I always seek to build trust and authenticity into relationships and I look forward to taking full advantage of this talent and assisting you with your goals. I have worked individually with adults since 2008. My focus has been on helping others develop management strategies for mood and personality disorders, sexual health, and trauma. My approach is based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy that I support with the use of Motivational Interviewing. As I reflected on the life experiences that led me to pursue this course of direction, I realize that my purpose has been influenced by the service of family and friends, as well as an interest in the cultures and stories of others. As a child and wife of military service members, I have traveled throughout the world and met many different people along my journey.

I have spent a decade providing care hoping to make a difference and learn about others. Having worked in the mental health field for non-profit battered women’s shelters managing and obtaining funding, the military substance abuse programs, inpatient settings, and partial hospital settings for over 30 years, I have been able to apply both the successes and lessons learned from each sector to improve both patient /client care and the work environment for individual and /or the family.
My current journey has been to mentor, assist with problem-solving, through solution-focused techniques, develop and implement programs, ideas, and solutions. I continue to work in mental health with military members as well as their families assisting with environmental change and opportunities for healthier choices.
By establishing clear boundaries, being 100% professional, and staying focused on the therapeutic goals that we set, I see my outgoing, friendly disposition as an asset as a mental health counselor. By communicating a clearly defined set of objectives, with milestones along the way, I can help the individual to feel hopeful that their issues can be resolved with time, patience, and hard work. For my counseling relationship to be effective, it is essential to empower and not coddle the individual. Feedback from clients as well as colleagues and supervisors, along with the rigorous practice of my own self-care, will enable me to always be at my best in the counseling relationship.
