About Me

Hi there, my name is John and I look forward to working with you.

I am a licensed psychotherapist and trauma specialist with years of experience helping individuals, couples, and families to live happier and healthier lives. I have worked successfully with a wide variety of clients throughout my career and I have also supervised and trained other therapists.

I am presently focusing my online therapy practice on couples therapy. I am accepting LGBTQ+ persons for individual web counseling because this is an underserved population in Texas that I specialize in working with. However, I am limiting my work with non-LGBTQ+ individuals to independent adults who are stable in their lives and want assistance with issues that can be resolved via internet-based therapy. See the client terms and conditions for BetterHelp web counseling if you have further questions about what is appropriate for web counseling and the unique risks and benefits of this modality.

My approach to therapy is laidback and conversational because clients are more likely to enjoy the process if we avoid authoritarian dynamics that cause unnecessary stress. When clients enjoy the therapeutic process, then they naturally get more out of it. I also believe that there should be space for joy and humor in the therapeutic process.

As a nationally Certified Personal Fitness Trainer and NYU fellow in Primary and Behavioral Health Care Integration, I promote the “whole person” approach to therapy because mental health and physical health are interdependent and interrelated with one's emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual needs. You and I will create a personalized treatment plan to reach your unique integrated wellness goals.

Best therapist I’ve ever had. Wisest man and makes me feel heard. Very challenging and perfect for self growth

Amicable, dedicated, and sharp. John is great because he is transparent with his treatments and takes time to explain new concepts so that the client is well informed. He is also very warm and charismatic as a person, easy to be open with him and crack jokes, even in the gallows. I've learned that getting along with your therapist is crucial, and John is an easy guy to befriend. He pays attention and listens to the clients needs/wants and what their goal is and helps them work to reach that goal. John is patient but not passive and will encourage you to go at your own pace and take the time you need, but remains focused on the task at hand and does not waste your time or money. I have yet to attend a session where I haven't learned something either about my symptoms, myself, or psychology. Would highly recommend.

John has been absolutely instrumental in my journey to a healthy mind body and spirit. I came to him completely tired and lost with no clear path to take forward, just knowing I couldn't keep on the way I was going... I believe wholeheartedly John was fatefully placed by God into my life and I wish I could continue treatment with John, but unfortunately the EMDR treatment he's set me on requires consistent face to face sessions. Therefore to follow through and be effective I have to seek a local counselor whom also uses the practice. John must have known he would likely lose me as a BetterHelp client with this treatment, but still he put my mental health before the selfish desire to retain me as a client, and to me that just speaks volumes of his character! Thank you John for everything you've done for me! You are a Godsend!!

John is by far the best therapist I have worked with. He is extremely knowledgeable on many subjects and has a lot of insight into a variety of issues. He is very accepting and a good listener but also knows the right time to provide constructive criticism and feedback that will ultimately help me develop the right skills to work with myself on my own problems. I believe he can tailor his approach to someone's specific needs and where they're at with their mental health struggles. Definitely the best decision I've made for myself was choosing to work with him and the benefits I've gained are beyond what I thought possible for myself! He's also hilarious and helps me feel more lighthearted about emotionally dense subjects, which I feel is important for developing the thick skin to handle them responsibly and have a holistic and realistic view of life. Highly recommend.

W. John Arlotto is a great listener and give the best suggestion to better myself every session. I wouldn’t think that I would be this better without him helping and listening me.

John is a fantastic person and an excellent practitioner. He listens to and actually understands problems. John has a breadth of knowledge and experience and has helped me in ways I never expected. He has a flexible schedule, and I've never had a problem talking to him when I need him. He is a calming presence during a crisis as well. John is not a "Okay, how does that make you feel?" therapist. He is active and available, and I've been nothing but impressed with him. I wish I'd had him years ago.

John is wonderful! I'm so glad he was chosen to be my therapist. He's been helpful and encouraging ever since our very first appointment together.

John has been counseling me for a few weeks now and he has been such a positive and helpful influence in my life. His open-minded approach to therapy allows for fun and supportive sessions. Talking with John feels like talking to a friend. We crack jokes and laugh a lot, even when talking about heavy subjects. Its an extremely effective method of easing anxiety and lifting up my overall mood. I always feel so much better about life after a chat with John. He is clearly very experienced and has a strong sense of intuition! I gave him little information about my life and past and he was able to deduce personal details and fill in the gaps. It felt like someone was finally able to understand me and my experiences without me having to give my entire life story right off the bat.
11/10 would recommend to anyone in need.

John has been amazing counselor in our work so far. His knowledge and expertise are truly exceptional, as well as his understanding and compassion. He’s been able to help me start working through a couple of issues already even though we haven’t been working together for very long. I’m genuinely impressed and looking forward to the rest of our work!

I connected with John immediately. He understands me better than I expected. It genuinely feels like talking to an extremely wise friend. He is easy to talk to, but also has a lot of feedback to offer. I would recommend him to anybody.
