Hi there, my name is W. John Arlotto, LCSW and I look forward to working with you.
I am a licensed psychotherapist and trauma specialist with over 10 years of experience helping individuals, couples, and families to live happier and healthier lives. I have worked successfully with clients of all ages, ethnicities, faiths, genders, nationalities, races, sexes, sexual orientations, shapes, and sizes. I have also supervised and trained other therapists over the course of my career.
My approach to therapy is laidback and conversational because clients are more likely to enjoy the process if we avoid authoritarian dynamics that cause unnecessary stress. When clients enjoy the therapeutic process, then they naturally get more out of it because they feel empowered and are more invested. I also believe that there should be space for joy and humor in the therapeutic process.
As a nationally Certified Personal Fitness Trainer and NYU fellow in Primary and Behavioral Health Care Integration, I promote the “whole person” approach to psychotherapy that addresses physical health, intellectual needs, social needs and spiritual needs in addition to a client's psycho-emotional needs because they are all interrelated.
I have helped clients resolve wide-ranging clinical and non-clinical issues including but not limited to: abuse, neglect, sexual assault, and traumatic events of all kinds; anxiety, bipolar disorder, career challenges, communication issues, depression, eating disorders, family and relationship issues, obsessive-compulsive disorders (OCD), personality disorders, and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). I have also worked successfully with members of law enforcement and military veterans.
I tailor my use of specific therapeutic interventions to the individualized needs of each client as determined by the client. You are the expert on what it is like to be you. I am just here to help.
- Stress, Anxiety
- Family conflicts
- Trauma and abuse
I also have experience in Addictions, Relationship issues, Grief, Intimacy-related issues, Eating disorders, Sleeping disorders, Parenting issues, Anger management, Self esteem, Career difficulties, Bipolar disorder, Coping with life changes, Coaching, Compassion fatigue

John has been counseling me for a few weeks now and he has been such a positive and helpful influence in my life. His open-minded approach to therapy allows for fun and supportive sessions. Talking with John feels like talking to a friend. We crack jokes and laugh a lot, even when talking about heavy subjects. Its an extremely effective method of easing anxiety and lifting up my overall mood. I always feel so much better about life after a chat with John. He is clearly very experienced and has a strong sense of intuition! I gave him little information about my life and past and he was able to deduce personal details and fill in the gaps. It felt like someone was finally able to understand me and my experiences without me having to give my entire life story right off the bat.
11/10 would recommend to anyone in need.
John has been amazing counselor in our work so far. His knowledge and expertise are truly exceptional, as well as his understanding and compassion. He’s been able to help me start working through a couple of issues already even though we haven’t been working together for very long. I’m genuinely impressed and looking forward to the rest of our work!
I connected with John immediately. He understands me better than I expected. It genuinely feels like talking to an extremely wise friend. He is easy to talk to, but also has a lot of feedback to offer. I would recommend him to anybody.
