I retired from the Federal Bureau of Prisons in 2010 with 30 years of total prison psychologist service, many of which were spent working with women. I have been licensed as a psychologist in California since 1995.
I have much experience working with heterogeneous multicultural populations. I have clinical experience with gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered individuals with varied racial, ethnic and socioeconomic contexts. Working in a prison frequently demands use of a brief therapy model and excellent abilities to work under pressure, manage crises and make good, yet quick, decisions. As a psychologist, I help clients “make difficult things simple” and facilitate how to think, behave and feel better.
Since I retired, I taught at many colleges and now teach Criminal Justice, Statistics and Psychology courses at two local universities. I also do geriatric counseling in nursing homes.
In life, there’s “the problem” and there’s “how you think about the problem.” In my experience, the latter is what gives folks the most difficulty. As Abraham Lincoln said, “People are going to be about as happy as they decide to let themselves be.” That’s great news! because short- and long-term growth and improvement may be easier than you think.
I look forward to working with you….

Dr. Mareks assessment of our relationship is spot on. . He will tell you how it is point blank. Wish I had more money for my therapy.
