My name is Bill Stoner. I'm from Milwaukee Wisconsin and married for many years with two adult children.
I am a licensed Mental Health and Substance Dependency professional with more than 20 years of Psychotherapy and Substance Dependency counseling experience. My Substance Dependency clients have found my last name entertaining over and over again. I have a great sense of humor and only take seriously what is really necessary. I have found laughing and humor to be one of the many useful tools therapeutically and personally. Laughing is a great and proven tool for healing. People generally take themselves too seriously and need permission to take a break from that so they can find some needed light heartedness at times.
My clients describe me as inspiring, consistently optimistic and easy to talk to. I believe in the innate goodness of all people and am passionate about helping them live the quality daily life intended for all.
On a more serious not you can count on me for the following in our work together:
1.) Confidentiality and good rapport
2.) Superior facilitation skills necessary to lead an effective therapeutic process
3.) Thorough and timely evaluation of the presenting problem.
4.) Clear and precisely defined course of treatment with measurable goals and objectives.
5.) Established picture of what life can look like when we've accomplished our work to your desires.
6.) Closing Summary and clear plan for steps beyond conclusion.
I am honored to have you consider us working together on some very sensitive personal matters.
I treat each client in the way that I would want my family members to be treated.
Thank you for your consideration.

I’ve never really participated in therapy before. I knew it was valuable, but didn’t really think I needed any help – until I became very overwhelmed with life, relationships, and work. It’s been nine months now. Bill has been a safe place for me when I had no other safe place. He has simply just held space for me. He hasn’t tried to fix me. He has listened with empathy. He has responded at every turn with kindness and gentleness. He has challenged my distorted thought patterns and guided me into having more compassion for myself. He has encouraged me and spoken truth to me. He has met me exactly where I am every time with no agenda. He knows all my secrets: he knows things I’ve never spoken out loud before, and still shows up every week. He has listened over and over and over again to the same story, the same struggles, and the same grief without judging me. He has reminded me of grace and hope and forgiveness – and reminded me to extend that to myself when I didn’t think I deserved it. I’m sure there are other great therapists out in the world, but out of all of them, I got him, and I can truly say how grateful I am for that. Therapy is exhausting and a lot of hard work: I am so thankful he has walked down this path with me and has given me the support and guidance I needed.

William Stoner listened well and I could tell from what he said that he understood what my main concerns were. He offered good counsel, and his suggestions reduced the anxiety I felt. He's personable and easy to talk to. Highly recommend.
