About Me

Congratulations on making the first step towards a healthy well-being. It takes a lot of courage to seek for help and commit to life changing behaviors.  I am honored that you have chosen me to part of your journey.

To get you a bit acquainted with how I can be part of your wellness journey, I achieved my Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling in 1998 from Saint Thomas University in Miami Florida and earned my license to practice in 2001 as Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida.  I have 22 years of experience working with children, teens, young adults, and their families who have experienced traumatic events involving the child welfare system. In my work, I have experienced working with individuals suffering from depression, anxiety, attention-deficit, sexual & physical abuse, substance use/abuse, medical & physical disabilities, behavioral difficulties, academic performance, life transitions difficulties, PTSD and developmental delays.  I have many more experience to describe but let's focus on the primary and most common ones.

My therapeutic style is mainly focused on where you are in your treatment process. I will always meet you where you are. But to sum up my therapeutic style, I would described it as using some of the strategies of the Solution-Focused Brief Therapy model, reality therapy, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.  In my earlier career training, I was also trained, but not fully certified, as a play therapist.  Who say adults can't play any games? Research shows that individuals who take the time to play, increased their ability to heal their bodies and minds. So let's play.  Laugh a little and then diligently move towards accomplishing the personal and life goals you want to set for yourself.  I am here as your support and in times, your tour guide.

If you feel that I am a fit for the therapist you are looking for and ready to start the healthy mental health journey, schedule our first appointment. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Yasmin has definitely helped me bypass my own ego in regards to my problems so far. I feel like there’s more work to be done but she absolutely nailed what I needed to hear most. She immediately recognized where I was avoiding and encouraged me to face it head on and I would absolutely recommend her.

Yasmin helped me wade through all the chaos I've been feeling. And she gave me wonderful suggestions that have helped in the short time I've used them. She shared a bit about herself which inspired and empowered me to take the steps I need to feel better!!

It has been an absolute pleasure to match with such a warm soul like Yasmin Mendoza. Although I was very nervous for counseling at first, Yasmin organically made me feel comfortable talking through my emotions and being my true self. I was left with many significant takeaways from our first couple of sessions that have already impacted my life positively and kicked off my healing journey. I am so grateful to have Yasmin and would highly recommend her expertise !

I’m so thankful to have started my therapy journey with Dr. Mendoza. She truly does meet you where you are in your healing process and nurtured you as you discover your own goals. I appreciate her knowledge, experience, and perspective. I’ve laughed, cried, and considered difficult questions and new ideas during our sessions. Highly recommend!

Yasmin has been such a blessing in my life. She continues to show me new ways to understand feelings and thoughts that I already have. I don’t feel like I’m being “schooled” but rather listened to and having my thoughts and feeling expanded on. She has become and extension of myself and I have found myself wondering how I made due before meeting her.

So far I have had 2 sessions with her and she is amazing. Listens so well and understands cues. Sometimes I won't even really say something and she will stop and just say "go ahead" she is calm and compassionate. Very warm. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for someone.
