About me

I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Maryland. I have extensive training in trauma, sex therapy and transgender care. I chose this field because of my love for helping others to see their potential and because of the need for more therapists like me in my community. Therapy with me is like talking to a friend on a couch, except sometimes I give homework lol. I am culturally sensitive and aware that our cultures and sub cultures help make us who we are which is important when it comes to therapy and our therapeutic relationship.

I've found that talking about sex and trauma is taboo is some cultures and was especially in mine growing up. That is why I choose my trainings for my community. Things that we don't talk about can lead to being sexually frustrated which can lead to resentment, anxiety, depression or a feeling of hopelessness. The thought of talking to friends or family is terrifying—it feels easier to sit in silence. Oftentimes, people come from a family or a community that’s not comfortable talking about sex, trauama or LGBTQ issues; maybe you come from one of those families or communities. You no longer have to keep this to yourself—I am here waiting to begin this journey of healing and change with you.

The thought of therapy/counseling can be a bit intimidating. Telling some complete stranger about some of the most intimate details in your life can be unnerving. I get it, however, this is a non-judgment zone, where you are safe and encouraged to be free to be your authentic self. I look forward to meeting you!

Yolanda does a great job of pinpointing what my issue is and asking questions that get me reflecting on the deeper problem. She is encouraging and supportive, and also gives me concrete ways to move forward and resolve indecision. I have really appreciated the sense of peace and perspective that she's given me in our short time together.
