About me

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor practicing in Portland, Oregon since 2012. I work with individuals on a wide range of issues including depression, anxiety, gender and sexuality, life transitions, stress management, and relationship matters. I use empathy, compassion, and openness to help my client's feel comfortable and confident in their decision to address difficulties in their lives and create fulfilling paths for the future.

I believe that counseling is most effective when the client and therapist work together to identify strengths and areas of opportunity in an effort to create a richer life experience for the client. I believe that it is important to use treatments and techniques that have been carefully researched and found effective, so I take an evidence-based approach to therapy.

I have in-depth training in cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavior therapy, and experience using mindfulness, solution-focused therapy, and motivational interviewing. I pull from each of these domains to create a therapy experience that is tailored to the needs of each individual I work with.

I hold a B.A. in Psychology from Arizona State University and an M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Pacific University. I have specialized training in working with LGBTQ individuals and in trauma-informed care. I have varied experience including work with youth and adults, mandated clients, community mental health, and private practice.

I look forward to working with you!

Alyssa is a great counselor, very easy to get along with, very friendly, and most importantly very knowledgeable with a good deal of experience in working with the LGBT community. I would recommend her 10/10
