About Me

I am an individual therapist licensed in Washington State with ten years of experience in therapeutic interventions with clients presenting with a variety of different concerns. These include depression, anxiety, LGBTQIA-related concerns, relationship issues including in non-traditional relationships, and stress-related, motivation, and self-esteem challenges. I have also worked with people with trauma, addictions, parenting issues, and grief and loss. I also carry the credentials of Child Mental Health Therapist and Perinatal Mental Health Specialist.

My style as a therapist is warm, genuine, honest, and casual, as well as interactive. I believe that you are the expert on your situation and come with the ability to overcome challenges, even if it may not feel that way right now. You are capable of making change, and I'm here to help. I believe everyone deserves to be heard with compassion and respect. My approach to therapy combines cognitive-behavioral, dialectical behavioral, and solution-focused counseling. We will work together on your goals and needs and come up with a plan to get there. It's important to note that I only offer communication via text, including asynchronous, email-style messaging and live sessions, which are instant-messenger style communications in real time.

I think it was pure luck that I got matched with Amanda, but I am so happy that I was! I signed up for BetterHelp through an EAP with my work to deal with an urgent social issue. Eventually that issue was resolved, but I chose to continue working with Amanda on my relationships, which I hadn’t nurtured through therapy in the past. The text based therapy was very new to me, but worked really well for my personal communication style. Whether in an instant messaging session, or communicating through our general chat portal, I always felt listened to and respected by Amanda, and responded to in a timely fashion. I valued her familiarity with the LGBTQ+ community, and non-traditional relationship styles.

Amanda was a fantastically accommodating, friendly, stabilizing influence in a time where I felt like I had no one to turn to. She met me where I was and helped me build up my good habits and coping mechanisms, piece by piece, to the point where I feel comfortably self sufficient. I greatly appreciate her help.

Amanda has helped pull me back to the surface and begin to navigate through some tough family issues. The validation has made me feel like a new person - a thousand times lighter! I feel seen and heard through messaging in my own time. No pressure to have to set an appointment or be on camera is awesome. I get the help I need without having phone or video anxiety to worry about.

Amanda has helped me in more ways than I can count. I've been to therapy before and this time I was very certain I needed a direct approach. She is attentive and I appreciate being able to communicate with her more frequently than I would if I had been in regular counseling. Sometimes I wish her responses were longer but overall I am glad I have a professional to talk about things with.
