About me

In life’s journey, we are all met with obstacles to overcome. Sometimes they are small ant hills that we can step over, sometimes they are small hills that we struggle to get over, and sometimes they can feel like insurmountable mountains. For each of us, our hills and mountains (and how they feel) might be different. Sometimes those ant hills can feel like a mountain as well. It may feel like you do not have the tools to get over those obstacles safely and securely. If you are ready to get those tools, then this may be the next step on your journey to healing.

Professional Experience:

It would be my pleasure to help you on your journey and walk with you as you overcome the obstacles in your life. My goal is to help you grow and look for new horizons. I have worked with adults struggling with anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, past traumas, bipolar disorders, attention deficits/hyperactivity, chronic illness/pain, and substance use. Clients have come in saying things like “I can’t seem to get motivated”, “I feel stuck”, “I expected things to go differently for me”, I want to move past my trauma”, or “I don’t know what it is, but I don’t want to feel this way anymore.” No matter what part of your journey brought you here, I have lots of tools for your tool box, bag, or belt to help you manage your symptoms and work towards your goals.

I received my Bachelors degree in Psychology from Canisius University, then later obtained my Masters in Mental Health Counseling from Medaille University. I previously worked in a community behavioral health clinic as a counselor and program manager. I am trained in motivational interviewing (MI), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT/tapping), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I utilize a person-centered and trauma informed approach to ensure clients feel heard and safe in sessions. I am body positive, LGBTQIA+ friendly and gender affirming. I strive to make a safe and judgment free space for all individuals.

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Amie Martinez. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

Being disabled and having a therapist who gets it, is a game changer. I like the fact that she doesn't just listen to me but also gives me tips on how to deal with things better. I've learned a lot about trauma and various responses that I wish I had known years ago. Overall would recommend.
