I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with more than 20 years' experience. I received my undergraduate and graduate degrees from University of Michigan and Oakland University, respectively. I furthered my formal education with a post-Master's degree specialization in mental health.
In my work as a psychotherapist I encounter many people of various nationalities and socioeconomic standing. As I help them with their concerns, I repeatedly find the single most important conduit to change is the relationship we forge in therapy. In this relationship I am without judgment. I am respectful, understanding, and completely accepting.
Although I use a variety of therapeutic methods, an eclectic approach that I tailor to the specific needs of each client, I do try to incorporate humor appropriately in my sessions, the key word being appropriately.
Regardless of the presenting problem, whether it is one's depression, mania, anxiety, trauma, grief, or a relationship, sexual, acculturation, or emancipation issue, I have beneficial goals of my own for my clients: 1) to realize they are more than their problem, 2) to learn how to laugh at themselves and at what life confronts them with, and 3) to become more confident and capable human beings.
Enough about me, I'm glad you for taking the first step toward a more fulfilling, lighthearted, and purposeful life. Welcome to our first session together.

I loved working with Amira. She was like a good conscious friend who would validate you but also give you real helpful homework. Having her in my life for extended period of time was very grounding and balancing. She was also available by email in between sessions, and I really appreciate your heart. I truly felt that she had my back.

Amira has been great so far. She is really helping me. 1000000% better than my last therapist of 2 years who I saw in-person.
