I am someone who have like many quietly battled anxiety and depression over the course of their lives. That being said I have felt like I was coping with that through burying myself in activities or work and trying to outrun those tendencies. It wasn't until this year after being married for 5 years that I felt like I had reached a breaking point with that weight on my shoulder. I felt like I was having trouble getting up and caring about my day and anything extra curricular. It truly becoming a persistent cycle and I kept avoiding talking to someone since I felt like it got so bad at times I couldn't even vocalize my feelings. It was after one of these pivotal moments that I decided with my spouse to talk to Dr Montez.

I cannot begin to describe how thankful I was to have Dr Montez in my corner every week. After one session with him I felt like I could open up more on why I was seeking help. At first I didn't even really know myself, I just knew that I needed to be heard or to get these thoughts out to better understand why I had suddenly lost control of these feelings and how they were starting to bleed into every facet of my daily life. This sort of progression took place for the first month where I would share my life and what weighed on me. During this time I would leave my session with Dr Montez and feel an overwhelming sense of relaxation based on his guidance and professional opinion as not only a Licensed Professional Counselor, but as someone that truly wanted to help me and saw me struggling.

A little about myself. I am a very guarded individual and someone who has a tight circle of friends and family. I had a traumatic event happen to me several years back that I believed I was past and had buried away. I had not talked to anyone about it, because I had figured it was past me. I decided after a few sessions with Dr. Montez that I thought it best to bring up in our meeting. I didn't realize how hard it was for me in that moment to actually bring myself to share this event which I thought was significant, but well past me. I just started to cry and felt like something just buried deep inside of me was being lifted to the surface like a 100lb dumbbell that I didn't know was there. I felt vulnerable, scared and overcome in that moment something I felt like I couldn't squash either or push down this was trauma several years worth coming out in a matter of minutes. When I say this I truly mean it, I felt as if Dr. Montez reached out through the computer and put his hand on my shoulder as a father or parent would to their child in a moment of need. He listened to me in that moment and offered some of the best counseling to me over the next several sessions as we unpacked all that had happened. He would send me articles and provide words of encouragement and most important tangible methods to practice and apply going forward in an effort to rehabilitate my mind which had been plagued by this event indirectly and was manifesting itself in other ways.

I cannot state how much I have valued his teachings, words and mentorship during my time with him. I felt at every turn he displayed nothing but the highest level of professionalism and kindness towards me with a genuine desire to help me find what I was looking for and he did through all the different roads we took during our time. I wish more than anything that there were a million Dr. Montezs because I feel like everyone should experience the level of care that I was shown by him during our time together.
