I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a PhD in Human Services with a specialization in counseling. I work with individuals and couples. Historically, most of my clientele have been adults, followed by adolescents, and then older children. I currently work with adults only.
Most of my therapeutic services involve adult relationship issues. These include adjusting to major life events and various forms of loss including health, divorce, empty nest issues, and intimacy problems. People commonly experience symptoms consistent with depression and anxiety during these life events. Other conditions I work with include attention deficit disorders, obsessive compulsive disorders, post traumatic stress disorder, work related stress problems, adjustment issues, and faith or spiritual issues.
Like most mental health clinicians, I have a rather eclectic approach to counseling in that I borrow from several theories of human behavior and development. However, I gravitate to the existential/transpersonal model in that I'm interested in what the person is experiencing today while considering the concept that people are spiritual beings embodied. I incorporate the cognitive behavioral model and, at times, utilize a more psychoanalytic model exploring the person's childhood experiences within a developmental context.
My personal counseling philosophy consists of three fundamental pillars:
1. Human beings are spiritual beings embodied (Existential/Transpersonal Theory).
2. People served and I are more alike than different. Things important to me as a person tend to be important to all people in general.
3. The people I serve have the answers they seek before treatment begins. The therapeutic process serves to illuminates paths/options and the answers become more clearly visible.
I schedule 8 sessions per day, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. This schedule enables me to provide 40 sessions per week, each session lasting 45 minutes.

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Dr. Anthony Montez. We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
Dr Montez, listens and relates different experiences to what you are experiencing. This gives you valuable tools to reflect on, learn, and apply in your daily life.
Dr Montez is great, listens very well and treats the conversation as 2 friends talking, highly recommend
He respectful , listen and so far I feel comfortable speaking with him about my situation
He is very insightful and tells me how it is!! I like the directness and honesty
He has been a shoulder to lean on when my current parent figure is mostly unavailable. Quite possibly the dad I never had
I am extremely happy
With Dr Montez. He is respectful. Kind and has helped me more than I could have hoped for.
Dr Montez is an excellent therapist. He is good at what he does. He has a hollistic view about the healing process and also gives you great examples of past experiences in a manner in which you can relate. You will change your perception of your circumstances after a few sessions, I highly recommend him.
Dr. Montez has a unique style of imparting wisdom using little anecdotes and parables. Those life stories helped me work thru my own life experiences on my own in between sessions. This was my first time trying therapy and he made it feel approachable and laid back like a conversation between friends.
I was ignored by my first therapist 16 years ago, so it was hard for me to trust going back. Dr. Montez has only ever been supportive and kind. I never thought that I would be able to tell someone my full story bringing me to tears and then end up laughing.
Great listener. Honestly it’s like talking to a friend and provides exceptional guidance
Dr. Montez is awesome and has changed my life.
Dr. Montez has helped me tremendously. I was sure to provide as much information as possible via the messaging service before we had our first session in hope that it would give us a good starting point. Dr. Montez exceeded my expectations as this was my first time using online talk therapy. I would absolutely recommend him. His experience as a clinician and seasoned veteran is priceless and he was able to very quickly discern where I was coming from and how to help me approach the issues that I presented to him. If Dr. Montez (he told me to call him Anthony) is assigned to you as the first option, you will be incredibly happy with BetterHelp for the connection.
Dr. Montez was extremely helpful, understanding and professional. I plan on talking with him in the future. I was surprised at how helpful he was in my situation, how quick he understood what I was goin thru and the great advice he gave me. He earned my trust immediately.
Dr. Montez has been wonderful at actively listening to my needs and talking me through both point of views in a relationship. He is super personable, makes you feel comfortable, and makes sure to address all your concerns. After each discussion I left with way more clarity and confidence on how to move forward with the topics we discussed. I highly recommend!
very personable and able to relate to expressed issues that come up. provides excellent perspectives and suggestions/recommendations on handling stress and being forgiving of one's self
Dr Montez is a thoughtful and kind person with highly technical knowledge and a wealth of experience to draw from. He's given me a variety of ways to communicate and is always availble in a reasonable amount of time and has my best interest as a priority.
He is wonderful
Dr. Montez is a great therapist but more importantly a great person. He is great listener and gives even better insight to help navigate my life choices. I always leave his sessions with clarity.
He is totally awesome! I learned so much from him.
Dr. Montez is an amazing therapist! He makes me comfortable, and it feels like we're just chatting. In reality, we are getting so much done without me realizing it until later. It's the best way to be a 'patient' for me! I am always confident in his expertise and wise words. He surely knows what he's doing and has already changed my life in many ways. Coming from someone who has always felt like they needed to be 'fixed' when attending therapy... Dr. Montez makes you feel confident and helps you believe in yourself again! I feel capable and ready to take on the world again!!! I am truly grateful.
Dr. Montez is phenomenal. He helped me through the most difficult time in my life. He is calming, reassuring, and I always left our sessions feeling better about myself and my future.
Dr. Montez was a great listener and helped me to sort through some things that were recent issues.
I absolutely adore Dr. Montez. I am gaining the insight I need into who I am, and how to shift my perspective of thinking to build the life I want (AND DESERVE). Thank you!
He's super sweet and funny. Knows when to made light and to sit in solemn. Smiles a lot and makes me feel...normal.
This was my 1st time ever speaking to a counselor. Dr Montez made it a very good experience. He has been very open honest and easy to talk to I couldn't have asked for a better person to start my counseling journey with.
Really appreciate all the help Dr. Montez gave me. Very professional and easy to talk to.
I appreciate the availability and expertise of Dr. Montez. We had just a few interactions but I felt relly understood and supported. Very appreciated.
Dr. Montez is very perceptive to what's laying just below the surface. There are many times where I don't quite understand a feeling or why I'm feeling that way, and he explains things in a way where I can understand it. He's very kind, has a soft voice, and I definitely recommend him.
Dr. Montez is great. He is engaging, funny, and highly knowledgeable in his field. His style is conversational and he tells stories to get across his points. He’s not going to give you homework each week but he will leave you with things to think about and help you reframe your way of thinking.
Dr. Montez really helped me uncover what the source of my issues were, as well as deal with the depression I was experiencing. Thanks so much!
