About me

Hi! My name is Arti and I am already super impressed with you for having the courage to reach out for some extra assistance at this time. I'm sorry your life isn't quite where you want it to be at the moment, but I am confident we can get you where you want to go. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in rural Missouri. I have been working with kids and families for more than 20 years. I started my career working with troubled youth in a lockdown facility, then moved to working with adults with mental illnesses. From there I worked in about every position in the child welfare world and found my passion for preventative services. I have been working in preventative services trying to help families not lose their children to the state for almost 10 years. I also work with families of new babies to help them reduce childhood traumas. I have been doing counseling for about 6 years in a limited capacity. I have had very good success working with children and parents within the child welfare system tackling issues like attachment problems, substance use disorders, and trauma. I have also had the pleasure of working very successfully with adults that are either recovering from or exiting longstanding relationships with a narcissist partner.

My style of therapy is first, and foremost, to have fun. When we have a fun experience our brain reacts and we want to have that experience again. This keeps the momentum rolling and makes it much easier to do the hard work that therapy sometimes is. How do therapists greet each other? "Your fine, how am I?" How many therapists does it take to change a light bulb? "It doesn't matter because the light bulb will only change if it really wants to." Sadly, I couldn't find a box to click on here to say I specialize in dad jokes... I am a great believer in the Solution-Focused model of therapy where we don't dwell in the past too much other than to find past successes that we can apply to the present and future. I also will use Cognitive Behavioral Approaches, Motivational Interviewing, and Client-Centered Therapy. I recognize that you are the absolute expert on the subject of you. I am also trained in the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (a fancy way of saying I understand how early trauma effects brain development and how that brain development can remain skewed well into adulthood without correction).

Again, I'm already super impressed you have overcome the ego, stigmas, biases, and all the other junk that gets in the way of asking for a little extra support. I can't wait to meet you and learn more about you. I hope we are a great match to go on this journey together.

Reviews

These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Arti Dautenhahn. We don't pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.

Arti is deeply insightful, kind and supportive, yet not afraid to call me on my bullshit if he sees it. He has made it comfortable for me to open up fully and be fully honest with him, and he has helped me piece various things together in my life that have made living BETTER. I would highly recommend Arti to others in need of assistance.

Arti was the right person to help me address my issues. He's empathetic and he gives me insight that I wouldn't have previously thought of. He doesn't make me feel like I am broken or that there's something wrong with me. He's helped me tremendously to better understand myself and the things that I need to work on to help me on my path in life.

I'm an over-educated professional with extensive trauma from childhood and my career. I've seen numerous therapists over the years, but Arti has helped me more than anyone. His feedback, advice, and homework helped me overcome tremendous obstacles. I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for Arti. Incredible therapist who listens, rolls with resistance, and cares for his patients. There's an art to therapy; Arti is one of the few who have mastered it.

Arti has been so helpful to me. He's always willing to help in any way he can. I can usually always reach him through the messaging area within a timely manner, though I prefer to mostly converse over the video chat. Nothing negative to say about working with him.

I feel I've really connected with Arti. He listens, and offers guidance even when it's not the answer you want to hear. Sometimes it's hard, but in the end I get a sense that it was worth it.

Arti was always able to listen to and really hear me with my concerns. He helped narrow down a focus for each session we had, and he was always happy to provided resources and feedback between our sessions.

I never felt like I couldn't reach out to him with trivial concerns, nor did I hold anything back. He really makes sure to make you feel comfortable and capable.

I'm a better person because of Arti, and because he helped me realize who I already was.

While Betterhelp does change the dynamic from traditional forms of counseling, I think Arti makes the best of this platform and works to redefine what clients can get out of counseling to the fullest capacity.

Thanks Arti
