About me

My name is Rebekah Tweed (she/her), and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Los Angeles, California, on the traditional lands of the Chumash and Tongva Peoples. I work full time at the Los Angeles LGBT Center where I provide individual therapy, group-based support care, and crisis counseling. I graduated from the University of Tennessee Knoxville with my Masters of Social Work in 2012 and have been working in the field since then. Though I grew up in rural east Tennessee, I spent 5 years in Boston, Massachusetts, before moving to Los Angeles in 2018.

I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults with a wide range of concerns, including trauma, anxiety, relationship concerns, like codependency and poor boundaries, phase of life issues, body image, and identity development. My general practice is trauma-informed and social justice oriented. I draw from a variety of techniques, including those from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy, Relational Therapy, and Systems Theory. I have specialized practice in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which has been effective with clients with distressing symptoms related to trauma.

I believe that you are the expert of your own experience, and as a co-collaborator in your mental health, I am here to support your needs and wants in a safe, judgement-free environment. Our relationship should be a source of encouragement and growth, as well as a place to challenge toxic behaviors and patterns. While therapy is rarely - if ever - easy, it is a place to practice and learn new skills without rejection or shame. I approach everyone with warmth, empathy, and curiosity. It is your space, your time, and your resources, and I will make every effort to respect them all.

In both the personal and professional spheres, I challenge oppression in all of its forms, including racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, fatphobia, and colonization. I recognize the ways that systemic and institutional oppression manifest, including in personal, intergenerational, and collective trauma, and the inherent power dynamics at play in the relationship between client and therapist that mimic these structures. I have immense privilege as a white, cisgender, American woman. I value learning and growing, as well as the challenge of dismantling systems that I am actively involved in and benefit from.

I am LGBTQIA2S+ affirming, fat positive, sex work positive, kink and BDSM friendly.
