Astin Wangel-Brown, LCSW
About me
I am an African-American identified, cis-gender female Therapist/Licensed Clinical Social Worker who is excited about my work with folks whose life experiences and/or identities have placed them outside of the expectations of dominant narratives and forced them to identify creative ways to survive. My training as a Relational Therapist informs my keen interest in how identity and context informs how folks are coping and caring for themselves. Working relationally with an individual allows for folks to spend time getting to know who they are in relationship to their environments, intimate partners, family members and even the larger society. I am of the belief that we are relational beings and bringing this lens has offered my clients a more expansive experience of individual therapy, one that has not only positively impacted their own functioning but the functioning of their relationships.
I work collaboratively, transparently and without judgement. I center clients' experience and their language as I believe we are all the experts on our own lives, we just sometimes get stuck and have trouble seeing our resources clearly and/or organizing them to help ourselves.
