Bertha Barrett, LMHC
About me
I am a licensed mental health counselor in Florida and a certified clinical trauma professional. I am the owner of Intake Psychotherapy & Wellness, LLC where I provide online therapy to individuals across the state of Florida.
I hold a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Before becoming a therapist, I worked in corporate America for 15 years. I am currently training to become a Certified Integrative Mental Health Professional to incorporate nutritional and integrative methods to assist clients who wish to include a holistic approach to improving their mental and physical health as the mind and body are one.
As a trauma professional, I am experienced in assisting survivors and victims with recent, current, or past trauma. I believe it is not important for clients to discuss details about their traumatic event to heal. However, it is more important to assist clients with identifying triggers and adapting coping skills so they can live in the now and decrease the somatic and sensory effects trauma has on the mind and body.
I have worked with adults and adolescents and their families to promote optimum mental and emotional health for 4 years. I am experienced in assisting clients with anxiety, low self-esteem, and confidence, setting boundaries, and coping with stress and trauma along with other mental and emotional distress.
I practice individual and family therapy and strive to create an open, nonjudgmental, and supportive environment for my clients so they can feel comfortable growing, exploring, and making change. I seek to utilize my training to provide clients with practical tools to cope and heal. As a COVID survivor, I understand all the life-changing situations associated with post-COVID. After experiencing the virus, I empathize with current and post COVID patients and strive to assist in helping individuals manage and cope with any associated emotional, mental, and physical effects.
My therapeutic orientation is eclectic using CBT, Solution-focus, Interpersonal, Psychoeducation, Creativity, etc., as I believe that no one clinical approach suits all. Every individual is different, so to best meet their individual needs, I believe it is essential to understand various therapeutic theories and philosophies. My therapeutic style is to meet you where you are and together, tailor our sessions to your needs. I believe therapy is a collaborative effort between the therapist and client. I often inform my clients that I lead from behind, but they are always in control.
I am a strong advocate for mental health and against domestic violence. I endeavor to destigmatize mental illnesses and educate and empower individuals to understand the significance of maintaining mental wellness. Counseling to me is more than a profession but a calling, so I am constantly learning and building my skills so I can offer my clients the best therapeutic care.
I look forward to consulting with you and offering my professional guidance to assist you with any emotional, relational, or life challenges you may be experiencing.

Bertha provides a safe space to process my issues. While I might want to fight against what makes me uncomfortable, Bertha helps me to find ways to challenge me to do just that, sit and allow my process to be my process. I appreciate that, and the expert way in which she shows up.
