About me

Hi. Thank you for taking the time to meet me. I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) since 2012. My clinical experience was in residential treatment of women with co-occurring diagnoses, including Substance Use Disorders and Mental Health. I have an additional 5+ years of working as a Peer Support Counselor, assisting parents in the navigation of the mental health system for their children.

I am a helper and teacher by nature, am curious about people, and have the ability to listen and make connections to things that don't seem to be related.

My theoretical orientation is Existential, which teaches us that many of our problems are formed in relationship and, thus, can only be healed through relationship. However, I don't take a "blank slate" approach to therapy. I think an appropriate show of emotion can help normalize feelings. I also draw from the Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) approach of therapy, using my experience and the experiences of past clients to help you work towards the life YOU define as worth living. It is my strongly held opinion that if people were taught how to regulate their emotions, tolerate distress, and practice mindfulness, many of the issues we see today would be less severe.

If you decide to work with me, it is important for you to know that I am a bit of a geek and a dog mom. You might hear quotes from movies or songs. I might reference an excerpt from a book. All of this is to add context to the topic at hand.

Bonnie has done an excellent job of listening to me and helping me see other perspectives than my own while also validating how I am feeling and never minimizing anything I have to say

She helped me through a long drawn out issue. Very kind, gentle but will also point out flaws in my logic or blind spots. I recommend her.

Bonnie is so helpful, understanding, and compassionate. I feel like she really gets what I am saying (even when I am skipping around between topics and not finishing sentences.) She has helped me to understand myself and see myself in a new light, giving me hope in the process. She is also funny and relatable, and talking to her feels like a comfortable conversation, even when we discuss difficult things. I appreciate you endlessly, Bonnie! Thank you for the work you do!
