About me

When life gets complicated and difficult, it can feel like we're all alone and nobody understands or can help. But you're not alone in feeling like that, everyone struggles with life sometimes. I know what it’s like to struggle. I understand. And I can help you understand, process, and work through the complex feelings that make life difficult. I’ve met many despairing, depressed, and anxious people who felt hopeless about life and the chances of it ever getting better. I’ve seen those people turn their lives around, in ways that felt almost miraculous. I’ve found that people have more strength and wisdom than they realise. Together, in a warm, non-judgmental, and very safe, confidential environment, we can help you to re-discover that same wisdom and strength in yourself.

My approach to counselling is ‘person-centred’. That means I won’t tell you what to do, how you should think or feel, or that there’s anything ‘wrong’ with you. I know that you are the only person who can be an expert on your life, because you are the only person who has had your life experience. You are the only person who can know what you feel, and why.

I believe that with the right support, everyone has the strength and ability within themselves to overcome any emotional difficulties that they might be experiencing. My job is to give you a safe and confidential space where you can feel comfortable enough to say anything that you’re thinking or feeling, to tell the deepest truths you may have never told anyone else. Through providing open, accepting, non-judgemental presence, support and discussion, I can help you uncover, untangle and process the difficult thoughts and emotions which are currently making life hard. That way, you can gain peace and understanding, to develop the solutions that feel right to you, that fit in with your life and the way you want or need to live.

I have extensive experience and understanding of how to help people improve, learn, grow, and become the person that they want to be, through my work as a counsellor, lecturer, and author.

Above all else, the one thing I have learned is that life can get better. And just by making the decision to look for help, you've already started on the path towards a more fulfilled and happier life. I'd love to help you on that journey.

I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, trauma and abuse, motivation, self esteem, and confidence, & depression. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. I am here to support & empower you to do that.

Brian Back, my therapist, embodies the calm, guiding presence I've longed for in therapy. His approach to our conversations is refreshingly straightforward, creating a safe haven where I can confront my personal struggles. Brian excels at empowering me to make life choices confidently while nurturing a serene atmosphere for exploring emotions and perspectives. What truly reassures me in our discussions is Brian's profound understanding of our shared human experiences-acknowledging that imperfection is part of the journey, yet we're often doing just fine.

I’ve been working with Brian for a year now, with a lot of life changes during that time – changing jobs, moving abroad, dealing with a breakup. Brian's been super helpful. He's an amazing listener, and even when I ramble on (which I tend to do), he somehow boils it all down into key points we can dive into. He's not afraid to challenge me and ask probing questions, but always in such a polite and understanding way. And his memory of what we discuss is incredible! I was looking for a therapist who wouldn't tell me what to do, but rather help me sort through all the thoughts and anxieties in my head to find some meaning or direction, through in depth discussion, and Brian has been perfect for that. Brian's also flexible with his approach; we can stick to one focus for a while or just go with the flow from session to session. I’m looking forward to continue working with Brian.

Brian is an unwaveringly reassuring presence in every session. He’s able to listen deeply, reflect back emotions with insight, and offer healthy ways to cope. He’s also reliable and prompt: even when we have tech issues. He’s a therapist to be treasured.
