Carlton Mitchell

About Me

In my practice, I have the opportunity to help people from a wide variety of backgrounds who come to me seeking help with life's issues. During my internship and practicum experience, I worked on a college campus primarily serving individuals between the ages of 18 and 24. I have also worked in a community counseling center where I was able to help people of all ages respond to everything from relationship problems, trauma-related issues, and dealing with stress and anxiety.

My counseling style is warm and interactive. My therapeutic approach combines cognitive-behavioral, dialectical, and mindfulness-based treatments. Historically I have seen clients face life's challenges much better when they understand what they can and cannot change and how to respond to difficult circumstances. I do not believe in a one size fits all approach so it is my relationship with and listening to you that will allow me to determine how best to help you achieve the goals that YOU set in counseling.

I look forward to working with you as you continue your journey.

It’s been very easy to open up to Carlton. He makes me feel comfortable and valued. I don’t know how I got such a wonderful match the first time, but from what I’ve read it sounds like BetterHelp employs high quality therapists all around; I can attest to this with Carlton.

Carlton has been someone that has validated the fears and positive thoughts I’ve had about myself every session I speak with him. He’s always able to have his own real world situation to compare to, no matter my issue. And in the things he can’t have experienced or understand that have happened to me, he always validates and helps me understand where I’m at in those things. I appreciate his insight and he’s made me calmer and better in the simplest ways that I always thought were impossible.

This is the first time I have ever tried counseling and I don’t think I could have gotten better counselor. He takes the time to hear me out, and really respects what I may or may not want to share. He can be very serious but he always is light hearted and kind.

Carlton’s ability to exhibit strong listening skills and recap after a lengthy discussion made me feel like he connected with me and my situation. He gives me a lot to think about and focuses me on the appropriate growth solution.
