Hello! Welcome to the BetterHelp community! My name is Cathy and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I have over nine years experience providing therapeutic services in an inpatient setting, and over twenty years experience as a Social Worker in the mental health field. I have worked in a wide range of therapeutic settings which include inpatient psychiatric hospitalizations, outpatient mental health care, and correctional institutions. I work with people who are affected by depression, anxiety, trauma, and assist individuals who are experiencing relationship challenges. I received my undergraduate degree in Social Work from Southeast Missouri State University in 1997. I attended the University of Missouri, Columbia and graduated with a Master of Social Work degree in 2009, and subsequently obtained my Clinical License in 2011.
My approach to therapy is warm, empathetic, goal oriented and client centered. I use the modalities of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. These approaches are hands-on and practical approaches to assist with a variety of problems. CBT identifies patterns in thinking that contribute to unwanted feelings and behaviors with the goal to change these thought patterns, which subsequently change negative emotions. These approaches will assist with learning better ways of coping with life's stressors.
Reaching out for support can be difficult, and I applaud you for taking this step toward a path of emotional well being. I look forward to working with you!

I am so thankful to have Catherine as my counselor. She has helped me work through a tough season in my life. She leaves me with wonderful words of wisdom that come to my mind all week long as I continue on my journey of improved mental health. I can't express what a relief it is to be able to be completely honest with someone about how I am feeling and what I am struggling with. Catherine has encouraged me. She had prompted me to dig deeper with questions regarding my emotions and behaviors. She has given me permission to feel my emotions, discuss with God my disappointments and my failures; permission to give myself grace through the process. She is a light in my world presently and I am so glad I sought counsel and that Catherine was assigned to me!

She not only has amazing experience for my needs, she also legitimately cares about what is going on with me as a person. I have been to therapy several times, but she is the first therapist I've had that has been able to help me heal the most. I couldn't recommend her more strongly. If you are matched with Catherine, you are being matched with the best.

Written on Jun 29, 2021 after therapy with Catherine for 2 months on issues concerning depression, stress, anxiety, family conflicts, grief, eating disorders, and self esteem
Catherine is wonderful, she gives me a small and easy to do list at the end of every session and I really needed that. She listens to me and she adapts if she has an insight and I counter with different or new information, rather than meeting me with a one size fits all approach. She checks on me if I disappear for a long time, which is important because I tend to seek therapy the least when I need it the most. She is a very warm and intelligent person, she feels like a made up therapist from an HBO show with dead-on specific insights that I would never expect to actually get ahold of in real life.
