About me
Hi there and WELCOME! I am glad you have reached out to Better Help! Your now are on a journey to dive deeper into enhancing your mental health and seeking more empowerment and optimisation. It is a brave decision to prioritize your mental health and ask for guidance, along the journey. I applaud you for taking this first step.! I hope to always create a safe space here , with unconditional positive regard for all of my clients.
I am very interested in ADHD and PTSD and understanding healthy boundary’s and how to calm the amygdala.
You may have heard that expression we need to put on our own oxygen mask on a plane before helping those around us with theirs and I see self care as the same way . We are more able to support those in our lives if we first practice good self care. I want to support you to find your core values and optimise your well-being, and empower you to be your own coach!
I also see it, just as a car needs servicing, and maintenance checks, to function to its optimum. I believe it's also essential to prioritize our mental health in the same way, through this type of self care. We all come to points in our life where it can feel tricky to navigate our triggers and stress reactions. We need to develop our skills, and widen our toolbox, to cope better in our lives.
Life can be complicated and messy sometimes, there are many areas which need exploring and unpacking to get to the bottom of things and get in the direction of achieving our core values. Therapy is a safe way of getting more understanding and helping to keep us more “ clean” so to speak, as we can safely explore our options and core beliefs. I come with no- judgement, empathy, humour and a kind heart, ready to listen. I help share resources which have been valuable to me along the journey. I have trained in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Solution Based therapies. I am currently training to get an accreditation in EMDR. I am really interested in treating trauma in a somatic way. I use an eclectic approach, integrating several techniques to fit the needs of the client.
I am passionate about helping people get better self-confidence to build stronger relationships. Communication can be tricky and I view it as an art form to be developed. Many times we get stuck in dysfunctional patterns learnt from our childhood , resorting to the drama triangle of either victim, persecutor, or rescuer. We will explore these patterns and work on boundary setting to come into healthier, more assertive pattens. I also am passionate about finding each one's personality type and exploring one’s strengths through the Myer-Briggs tools and preferences. We can explore how you get your energy, learn, make decisions and organise your life. Understanding these areas as well as the language of appreciation and conflict resolution styles can give me great insight into how your brain works. Also understanding your attachment style can be hugely valuable. Our subconscious mind can sabotage us, even when we don’t expect it , due to unconscious programming. The amygdala can mis-fire faulty warnings trying to protect us and we can feel disempowered. There are somatic techniques which can help regulate these faulty signals.
We can also explore if you are recovering from grief and loss how to deal with this process in a healthy way. Loss can also be more areas than death.
There is so much to explore together, thank you for considering sharing this journey with me! I am licensed in the UK and trained in America (I am an American living in the UK) with a Masters in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counselling, with 25 years of professional work experience. I have experience in helping clients with relationship issues, trauma and abuse, coping with grief and loss, & parenting issues. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I will tailor our dialogue and treatment plan to meet your unique learning style. I also offer Chrisitan Counseling and I am happy to bring the spiritual element into the therapy if this is what the client consents toward.
I trained in London with CTI coaching fundamentals and have training in Neuro Linguistic programming in Bristol with world-famous trainers.
I teach well-being webinars, as that is my passion to educate people. I am very understanding of family struggles and being a parent of children on the autistic spectrum, lots of knowledge of how that can impact families, and offer resources around this area. Please do get in touch if we sound like a good match and the above areas are of interest to you. I really hope to hear from you soon !

Reviews
These quotes represent just a few of the many positive reviews that we have received for Cathleen Brentnall . We don’t pay anyone to provide their review and they are all made voluntarily. Some people's experience receiving therapy with BetterHelp might be different.
Cathleen is a very understanding, empathetic and skilled therapist. It has been a joy working with her for the past few months. She has reminded me of the skills I have, as well as teaching me many new ones, and has given me the confidence to use these going forward. Thank you for everything
Cathleen is a fantastic therapist and I'm immensely grateful for what she has taught me over several months and numerous sessions. I would highly recommend working with her.
Cathleen was so calm. Instantly I knew I could speak with her and confide. Without the fear of being judged. She was very very patient with my yapping away! Supported me with techniques I could use to ease my anxiety and not feel overwhelmed. Highlights recommend Cathleen.
I can honestly say that Cathleen is in a masterclass at what she does. I have never in my life felt that I have made such progress in my self-improvement in all my life. Cathleen is very easy to talk to, is a great listener, and genuinely cares about getting to the root of people’s problems, and giving them practical tools to deal with them. I couldn’t recommend Cathleen enough to anyone wishing to work with a therapist. Thank you Cathleen
She is amazing… Down to earth… She sees me for me and is ready to help me grow by whatever means possible… She spent extra hours talking to me even when she didn’t need to. Her Act of Service inspires me and makes me believe that Good People do exist.. Very Professional and Interested in knowing you.. She’s a firm believer of the word and she speaks from the spirit.. I love her existence
Lena is wonderful - so human and kind and really knowledgeable
It's my first time doing therapy, and I couldn't have been happier with my decision to finally do it. I'm so glad I found BetterHelp and they connected me with the best therapist, Cathleen, who has been extremely supportive and helpful. I can already feel progress and positive impact on my daily life thanks to her words, empathy, and techniques. I could only recommend!
