Dr. Chad Yates, LPC
About me
Hello, my name is Dr. Chad Yates. I received my Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Kent State University and my M.A. in Community Counseling from the University of Toledo. In providing counseling services, my mission is to provide a compassionate, inclusive space where you can feel heard and accepted while being challenged to find healthier ways to interact with yourself, others, and your environment. The decision to pursue counseling can feel challenging and vulnerable; however, the support of a trusted professional can help begin a process that allows us to access our inner resiliency.
I work from a counseling approach called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I believe that clients are stuck not broken. My aim in counseling is to assist clients in gaining skills to deal with painful thoughts and feelings more effectively so that these thoughts and feelings have less impact and influence. I also work with clients to help them clarify what is truly important and meaningful for them and then use that knowledge to guide and motivate behavioral change working to improve quality of life.
Areas I specialize in include substance abuse concerns, technology behavioral addictions (smartphone, social media, gaming), depression, anxiety, and personal growth and development.
I look forward to meeting and working with you!
