At various times in our lives we may feel the need for change and personal growth. I believe that the change and personal growth we seek can be achieved through therapeutic collaboration. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is a unique opportunity to take a look within and move passed anything that is holding us back. While this process is not easy; it is sacred and rewarding and I am honored to be a part of your process.
I am a native of Ohio, and began my road to becoming a counselor through undergraduate studies at Bowling Green State University where I received my bachelor's degree in Psychology. I continued my studies at Martin University where I obtained my first Master's Degree with a concentration in Community Psychology. I later returned for a second Master's and attended The Chicago School of Professional Psychology where my concentration was Counseling Psychology. Through these studies I was able to develop a love and great respect for the human experience.
I am an LCPC in Maryland and have 4 years of clinical experience. My full-time work has focused on substance use and mental health disorders associated with addiction, such as anxiety and depression. My clinical approach blends Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Existential, and Person-Centered; for me this means that I look at the thought patterns that have been developed based on the early life experiences and look create meaning and context, and I believe that each person is unique based on their experiences. While this blend may be beneficial for many, I understand that at times I may need to suspend my typical approach and take time to integrate other approaches that may be better suited for the person I am collaborating with and their needs.

Chamika is also great at applying broad concepts to specific situations, when I told her I identified on the LGBTQ+ spectrum, she asked me what my specific relationship with my identity was. I thought this was really empathetic and helpful as it let me think about my relationship with myself.
I have been working with Chamika since August and I can truly say she has significantly impacted my personal growth. I was dealing with anxiety/depression and through counseling I have recognized the patterns of behavior/thoughts that lead me to feel this way.

Honestly I never write reviews, but I have to share my really positive experience with Chamika. As a woman of color it was really important for me to have someone who could empathize and give me her perspective as another WoC on parenting issues, and career anxieties I had. Talking to Chamika has made me realize the importance of taking time for myself, and she gives me very concrete methods to help alleviate my anxiety or solve my issues. She always gives me a recap of our sessions so I can remember what we had covered, and she always follows up even though we don’t have a session plan. I love knowing that I have Chamika by my side as a professional advisor and friend.
